Angels report: Roster

Roster · Inside pitch · Notes, quotes

--RHP Sean O'Sullivan will be promoted from Class AAA Salt Lake to replace RHP Ervin Santana as the Angels' starting pitcher Tuesday. O'Sullivan was 5-2 with a 6.02 ERA in 10 starts at Triple-A. He will become the 12th starting pitcher used by the Angels this season and 10th rookie pitcher used overall. Both of those figures lead the major leagues. The Angels used just seven pitchers during the entire 2008 season.

--CF Torii Hunter left Monday's game after crashing into the wall while chasing Bengie Molina's double to left-center in the fourth inning. After lying on the warning track for some time, Hunter walked off the field. Precautionary X-rays were taken of his chest and rib area. The X-rays revealed no fracture, and the preliminary diagnosis is bruised ribs. He will be re-evaluated Tuesday.

--DH Vladimir Guerrero will be limited to pinch-hitting with the Angels playing a three-game series in San Francisco, but he was cleared to begin a throwing program. Guerrero has been limited to DH all season because of a torn pectoral muscle near his right arm.

--RHP John Lackey struck out a season-high 10 in seven innings Monday and got the victory over the Giants. He is 12-3 in interleague play during his career, the fourth-highest win percentage of any pitcher with at least 10 wins in interleague play. Lackey also got his first career hit Monday, an RBI single in the Angels' seven-run fourth inning. It came in his 27th major league at-bat.

MEDICAL WATCH:

CF Torii Hunter (ribs) left the June 15 game after crashing into the outfield wall. He will be reevaluated on June 16.

RHP Ervin Santana (right elbow soreness) was scratched from his scheduled June 16 start.

RHP Kelvim Escobar (right shoulder soreness) was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 16, retroactive to June 6. He is expected to return on June 21.

RHP Shane Loux (right shoulder inflammation) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 17. He played long-toss June 5.

RHP Scot Shields (left knee tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list May 26. He is scheduled for season-ending knee surgery on June 16.

RHP Dustin Moseley (nerve irritation in right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list April 18, and he was transferred to the 60-day disabled list June 6. He had a setback in mid-May during his rehab at extended spring training. He was cleared to start light throwing in late May but was shut down again because of pain traveling from his neck to his elbow.
