Angels report: Inside pitch
Chone Figgins has a campaign manager for his All-Star bid.
"I'm going to get six different e-mail addresses and vote for Figgy," Angels outfielder Torii Hunter said.
Hunter and Angels closer Brian Fuentes were named to the American League All-Star team Sunday by Rays manager Joe Maddon. It is the third All-Star selection for Hunter (2002 and 2007 previously) and the fourth selection for Fuentes (2005-2007) -- though the first for both as Angels.
"It doesn't get old," Fuentes said of his selection. "It's always an honor to go -- especially after not going last year. You realize how special it is. It's not automatic."
That's why Hunter is so eager to have Figgins join them at the All-Star Game. It would be Figgins' first All-Star selection.
The Angels third baseman is one of five candidates in the "Final Vote" -- an online balloting contest used to select the final player on the A.L. and N.L. rosters for the game. Figgins is pitted against Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler, Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge, Rays first baseman Carlos Pena and Blue Jays designated hitter Adam Lind. Voting runs through Thursday.
ANGELS 9, ORIOLES 6: The Angels fell behind early but rallied to beat the Orioles for the second consecutive day. The Angels scored 29 runs in taking three of four from the Orioles -- 24 of the 29 runs came in the fifth inning or later. Sunday's decisive rally was a three-run burst in the seventh inning fueled by one Orioles error and four walks, including two with the bases loaded.
