Angels report: Inside pitch

Inside pitch · Notes, quotes · Roster

When all was said and done, a lot more was said than done.

Despite being deeply involved in trade talks surrounding Roy Halladay and Heath Bell right up until Friday's non-waiver trade deadline, the Angels came up empty as that deadline passed.

"We had conversations with clubs this morning and yesterday. Ultimately, there was not a match that made sense for both clubs in any of those cases," Angels GM Tony Reagins said. "It really came down to not (finding) the best fit for either party, for the Angels or for the clubs we were talking to.

"We had a comfort level of where we would go in certain situations and were willing to be aggressive in pursuing some player that would help us. At the same time, the other clubs didn't see that as a fit. Rest assured, we made some proposals that we thought were very, very good."

The Blue Jays apparently never backed off on their demands for Halladay, which reportedly included left-hander Joe Saunders, infielders Brandon Wood and Erick Aybar plus a top prospect. One Internet report had the Padres asking for right-handers Sean O'Sullivan and Jose Arredondo plus infielder Sean Rodriguez for Bell.

"I know everything that was explored," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Tony made some strong proposals. Unfortunately, other teams wanted some things that would have created bigger holes than we were filling."

ANGELS 11, TWINS 5 (11 innings): The Angels scored six times in the 11th inning to cap one of the best months in franchise history with yet another comeback victory. The Angels went 19-7 in July, one short of the franchise record for victories in the month. Erick Aybar started Friday's rally with a leadoff walk. The next seven batters also reached base safely with runs scoring on singles by Howie Kendrick, Maicer Izturis, Bobby Abreu (two) and Kendry Morales.
