Angels report: Notes, quotes
--LHP Brian Fuentes has not pitched since two disastrous outings on back-to-back nights last week. Fuentes has not retired any of the past eight batters he has faced, four each Monday and Tuesday against the Indians. He allowed three singles, a double, two home runs and two walks in those two games. In his previous 19 appearances, Fuentes had not allowed more than one hit in any appearance.
--The Angels had 35 runs and 52 hits in the three-game series in Minnesota. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Angels are only the second American League team since the 1938 Red Sox to score more than 10 runs with at least 15 hits in each of three straight games. The Indians did it in 1986 with 15-4, 13-5 and 17-9 victories over the Brewers.
--The Angels finished July with a .316 team average and 185 runs scored. Both figures led the majors for the month. The .316 average in 26 games last month is the second-highest for any month in franchise history (25 games minimum) behind a .319 average in June 2007.
BY THE NUMBERS
.316, 185 -- The Angels' team batting average and runs scored during the month of July. Both figures led the majors.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"Tony (Reagins) made some strong proposals. Unfortunately, other teams wanted some things that would have created bigger holes than we were filling." -- Angels manager Mike Scioscia, on the team's failure to make a deal before the July 31 trade deadline.
