Angels report: Notes, quotes

Notes, quotes · Roster · Inside pitch

--RHP Sean O'Sullivan has been demoted twice previously after making starts for the Angels, but manager Mike Scioscia indicated O'Sullivan will remain in the rotation for the foreseeable future. "We do have a couple options if a guy is struggling or gets hurt," Scioscia said. "We think right now this is our best rotation. We hope it proves out to be that." O'Sullivan took his first major-league loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on six hits in five-plus innings against the White Sox. It was his first start since throwing a no-hitter for Class AAA Salt Lake on July 28.

--RHP John Lackey wound up with a no-decision after allowing four runs and five hits in eight innings Tuesday against the White Sox. Lackey is 4-0 with a 1.86 ERA over his last five starts and has pitched at least seven innings in 12 of his 16 starts.

--OF Bobby Abreu was named American League Player of the Month for July. Abreu hit .380 with 28 RBI in 26 games last month. Only one player in the majors this season has had a better month in both of those categories. Twins C Joe Mauer hit .414 with 32 RBI in May.

BY THE NUMBERS
.316, 185 -- The Angels' team batting average and runs scored during the month of July. Both figures led the majors.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"Tony (Reagins) made some strong proposals. Unfortunately, other teams wanted some things that would have created bigger holes than we were filling." -- Angels manager Mike Scioscia, on the team's failure to make a deal before the July 31 trade deadline.
