--LHP Trevor Reckling, who is in Class AA, has been invited to play for Team USA in the Baseball World Cup, Sept. 9-27 in Europe. The 20-year-old Reckling (one of the Angels' top-ranked prospects) is 8-6 with a 2.90 ERA in Class AA after starting this season in Class A. He is one of 23 players selected for the international competition.

--Chuck Finley and Brian Downing were inducted into the Angels' Hall of Fame before Thursday's game. The ceremony was originally scheduled for April 9 but was postponed when that game was rescheduled following the death of Nick Adenhart. Finley holds the club record for wins with 165 as an Angel. Downing and Finley bring the total in the Angels Hall of Fame to eight (along with Rod Carew, Jim Fregosi, Nolan Ryan, Bobby Grich, Don Baylor and Jimmie Reese).

--DH Vladimir Guerrero's single in the fifth inning Wednesday was his 1,000th hit for the Angels. He is the eighth player to get 1,000 hits for the franchise. Chone Figgins reached that mark earlier this month. The other six are Garret Anderson (2,368), Tim Salmon (1,674), Brian Downing (1,588), Darin Erstad (1,505), Jim Fregosi (1,408) and Bobby Grich (1,103).

BY THE NUMBERS
9 -- .300 hitters in the Angels' lineup at the end of their game in Cleveland on August 19. The first time that has happened at least 100 games into a season since the Tigers on Sept. 9, 1934.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I get to sit a lot now." -- Vladimir Guerrero, through an interpreter, on his role as DH.

I am a correspondant for ISportsWeb.com for the Miami Heat. I love blogging with them. They are a new site, and are getting a lot of exposure! The requirements are minimal, and it is fun. I read and listen to the so called experts every year and they never give the Angels the respect they deserve. We have won more games the last two years than any other team yet they diss us by picking the M's as the champs of the west the 2nd year in a row. They claim they are better defensively by adding Figgons. Better than Beltre? I don' ...(more)

I know that many of you have been a bit down this year in terms of the Angels offseason moves, but upon further reflection I think the Angels did a good job.  The reason I say this is because it would have been easy to sign a fat chech over to Bay or Holliday, however if you look at where the Angels should be in the next two to three y ...(more)

This Pineiro signing is just a bandage for Lackey.  My proposal is to go after Greinke - He probably isn't on the table but if the Angels make an offer that would wow the Royals, they might listen.  IMO greinke is in Halliday's class but makes far less money - hence a bigger ...(more)

Longtime Angels broadcaster Rory Markas passed away today. He coined the phrase "Light up the halo!" He was recently named, along with Gubicza and Mota, the tv voice of the club. Very sad news. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and all Angels fans, he'll be missed.

The signing of JOEL PINEIRO is a blessing and gives the Angels now 5 real solid starters and some ability to move some kids or players to get some bats.  The ANGELS still need someone to play 3rd base because B WOOD is not the answer.  He can't hit and he proved it this winter batting only 210 if that much with 2 hr.  That is ...(more)
