Angels report: Notes, quotes
--Sunday's matchup between Angels LHP Scott Kazmir and White Sox LHP Mark Buehrle was a repeat of the matchup from Buehrle's perfect game on July 23 in Chicago. Kazmir started for the Tampa Bay Rays and took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits and three walks in six innings.
--LHP Trevor Reckling, the Angels' top pitching prospect, threw seven shutout innings and struck out 11 for Team USA in an 8-0 victory over China in the 2009 Baseball World Cup in Germany. The 11 strikeouts are the most by a Team USA pitcher in World Cup play.
BY THE NUMBERS
3 -- The longest losing streak by the Angels this season. They are the only team in the majors not to have a four-game losing streak this season. Only 37 teams in baseball history have gone an entire season without a four-game losing streak, most recently the 2005 St. Louis Cardinals.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"A little healthy competition in the clubhouse is a good thing. I don't want those guys to one-up me. I want to do even better than them. But when they're out there, I'm the biggest cheerleader they have." -- RHP John Lackey, on the recent run of quality starts by Angels pitchers.
