Angels report: Notes, quotes
--The Angels move on to face the Yankees in the ALCS beginning Friday. The Angels and Yankees have faced each other twice before in the playoffs, and the Angels have won each time -- ALDS in 2002 and 2005.
--The Angels would not criticize Red Sox manager Terry Francona's decision to intentionally walk Torii Hunter in order to pitch to Vladimir Guerrero in the ninth inning. Guerrero is 2-for-12 with five strikeouts in his career against Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon during the regular season. "There's going to be pros and cons on both sides of it," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "I think we were fine with either one of the two (Hunter or Guerrero hitting)."
--Rather than travel immediately after Friday's game or early Saturday morning, the Angels elected to work out briefly in Anaheim on Saturday morning, then travel to Boston. Manager Mike Scioscia said the adjustment was made because the Angels worked out late at night in Boston on the day before Game 3 last year. This year's travel decision was compounded by the early start time for Game 3 -- noon EDT Sunday in Boston.
BY THE NUMBERS
9 -- Times on base in 13 plate appearances during the ALDS against Boston for OF Bobby Abreu (four walks, three singles, two doubles).
QUOTE TO NOTE
"The house of cards topples if they don't all do it." -- Manager Mike Scioscia on at-bats by Erick Aybar, Chone Figgins, Bobby Abreu and Vladimir Guerrero in the Angels' two-out rally to win Game 3.
