--RHP Dan Haren allowed just one run on six hits in seven innings Friday but received little offensive again. In his 15 starts for the Angels since being acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks last July, the Angels have scored three runs or fewer 10 times.
--SS Erick Aybar got the start in the leadoff spot Friday with Maicer Izturis given the night off. Aybar went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and is now batting .364 (43-for-118) in his career against the Royals.
--RHP Ervin Santana will make his first start of the season Saturday in Kansas City. The Angels have dominated the Royals since 2003, going 49-20 against Kansas City in that time, including 17 wins in their past 22 meetings. However, Santana is only 5-4 with a 4.45 ERA in 11 career starts against the Royals.
--INF Maicer Izturis was given the day off Friday, and Alberto Callaspo started at third base instead. Manager Mike Scioscia said the team would "pick our spots" with the oft-injured Izturis. With a night game Friday and an early start Saturday, Scioscia did not want to push Izturis by playing him in both games.
--RHP Joel Pineiro threw in the bullpen before Friday's game. He will travel to Arizona and pitch in a minor league camp game Sunday as the final test before coming off the disabled list to start the Angels' home opener, April 8 against the Blue Jays.
BY THE NUMBERS
35 -- Runs scored by the Angels when RHP Dan Haren has been on the mound (101 innings) in his 15 starts since being acquired last July.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"I'm not really thinking about that. A starting pitcher doesn't really think about how many runs I'm going to get. I think about trying to give up the least I can give up. I've always been that way." -- RHP Dan Haren, on the lack of run support he has received as an Angel.
