Notes, Quotes
--OF Bobby Abreu was 4-for-5 on Monday with two doubles, two RBI and two runs. Abreu had hits in each of his first three at-bats for a streak of five consecutive at-bats with hits, the longest by an Angel this season. It was the 25th time in his career he has had four or more hits in a game.
--1B Mark Trumbo hit a home run for the second consecutive game and has a team-leading 10 home runs, tops among major league rookies. The Angels hit four home runs in Monday's victory (two by Torii Hunter, one each by Peter Bourjos and Trumbo). That's a season-high for a nine-inning game. They had five home runs in a 13-inning loss at Kansas City on April 1.
--OF Vernon Wells has stepped up his workouts and ran the bases at nearly full speed before Monday's game. Wells has been out since May 9 because of a groin injury. He will begin taking batting practice during the series in Kansas City and could go on a rehab assignment within the week.
--LHP Scott Kazmir had a second terrible outing on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake. On a windy day in Tucson, Kazmir allowed 10 runs on six hits, three walks, two wild pitches and a hit batter in 2 1/3 innings Sunday night. In two Triple-A starts, Kazmir has a 36.00 ERA, allowing 16 runs in four innings.
--RHP Joel Pineiro will get a fourth try at his 100th career victory when he starts Tuesday against the Royals. Pineiro is winless in his past three starts despite the Angels having the lead when he left two of those games.
BY THE NUMBERS
3 -- Five-run comebacks in May for the Angels (May 1 at Tampa, May 27 at Minnesota, May 30 at Kansas City). It is only the second time in franchise history the Angels have overcome three five-run deficits in a month to win (May 1997).
QUOTE TO NOTE
"All in all, the progress has been slow, no doubt." -- Manager Mike Scioscia, on LHP Scott Kazmir's rehab.
