Diamondbacks report: Notes, quotes
--2B Emilio Bonifacio and OF Alex Romero were called up on Friday, while RHP Connor Robertson was optioned to Triple-A and OF Jeff Salazar was designated for assignment. Bonifacio will spell Orlando Hudson at second base, but can also play left and right field.
--RHP Juan Cruz could see a more prominent role in the bullpen. An oblique injury has slowed him of late, but Cruz pitched on Thursday with no ill effects. Chad Qualls has struggled and manager Bob Melvin said he might need to pitch a game in a lower-pressure situation.
--3B Mark Reynolds struck out twice on Friday and has whiffed 102 times this season. He is on pace to strike out 190 times this season, nine short of the single-season record held by Ryan Howard.
--SS Stephen Drew was thrown out at home by Padres left fielder Chase Headley in the sixth inning. The Padres led 2-0 at the time.
--The attendance of 49,110 was the third sellout of the season for the Diamondbacks.
BY THE NUMBERS
1.32 -- RHP Dan Haren's ERA in June, when he gave up six earned runs and 25 hits in 41 innings over six starts.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"We understand we have to change some things." -- OF Chris Young, after a stern talk from manager Bob Melvin following a 3-1 loss to Florida on Friday, when the D-backs fell to .500 for the first time since the fourth game of the season.
