--2B Kelly Johnson had his first two-home run game in more than a year, hitting solo homers in the third and sixth innings. He added a double and a triple, finishing a single short of the cycle. "I'm not trying to do too much. Just hit the ball real hard," said Johnson, who has a season-long six-game hitting streak in which he is 12-for-27 to raise his batting average to .224, the highest it has been since the second day of the season. His 13 total bases were two short of Shea Hillenbrand's franchise record set on July 7, 2003.

--RF Justin Upton tied a career high with five hits and finished a triple short of the cycle. His two-run homer in his last at-bat landed in Friday's Front Row Grill above the left field bleachers, about 450 feet from home plate. "We love coming home. We love hitting in this park. The bats came alive. I got some good pitches to hit and didn't miss them," Upton said. While going 5-for-5, he broke out of a 5-for-34 skid that began after his walk-off single beat Atlanta in the 11th inning May 18.

--The D-backs made up seven games in the NL West standings from April 30 to May 30, becoming the first team in major league history to make up that much ground and gain sole possession of a league or division lead in May, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The D-backs hold a half-game division lead over San Francisco after trailing Colorado by 6 1/2 games entering the month.

--LHP Joe Saunders won his second consecutive start after going winless in his first nine. Saunders got out of a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the first inning with a shallow flyout, a popout and a strikeout. "I just try to keep the team as close as possible," said Saunders, who left after six innings with a 6-4 lead.

--RHP Josh Collmenter has given up four earned runs and 13 hits in 22 1/3 innings in four starts since joining the rotation May 14. Collmenter had a season-high five strikeouts while giving up two runs in six innings of a no-decision at Houston on Sunday. His season ERA, including seven relief appearances, is 1.49. His walks-and-hits-per-inning-pitched ratio (WHIP) is 0.69.

BY THE NUMBERS
5 -- Homers for the Diamondbacks on Monday, a season high.

QUOTE TO NOTE
