Braves report: Inside pitch

Take a deep breath and relax. Right fielder Jeff Francoeur has not been demoted the way you think he has. Especially not all the way to Class AA Mississippi.

That destination was his choice. General manager Frank Wren asked Francoeur where he thought he'd feel most comfortable working on getting his swing back, and Francoeur produced some of his best offense under M-Braves manager Phillip Wellman.

Going down in the first place, though, was not Francoeur's choice.

Wren started thinking about that three weeks ago, and the conviction grew last weekend when the team was in Toronto. Francoeur's 1-for-12 performance in the Phillies series sealed it.

Wren and manager Bobby Cox handled it as sensitively as possible, delaying telling Francoeur until the press left the clubhouse Thursday. And both of them put the best face on the situation while talking to reporters Friday.

"We don't even really look at it as a demotion," Wren said. "We look at it as stepping back for a few days and decompressing and getting his game going."

"It's not a demotion," Cox said. "It's just a short period of time."

A specific period of time, it turns out: Francoeur will be back after the All-Star break.

But the only way Francoeur can get out of this slump is to swing his way out of it. That doesn't happen if he's benched, and it wasn't happening facing major league pitching.

"At the end of the day," Wren says, "there really wasn't a Plan B. Plan B was just watching and hoping."

Longtime friend and teammate Brian McCann's reaction? "Brutal."

BRAVES 6, ASTROS 2: The Braves got their first lead in a game in their last 47 innings when 1B Mark Teixeira scored in the second inning. RHP Tim Hudson gave up only one earned run in seven innings, and rookie RF Jason Perry tripled in his first major league at-bat.

I have been thinking about our outfield situation and have come up with an idea.  I think the Braves should try to trade for Carlos Lee of the Astros.  He is a righthanded power hitter that we need and a good solid player.  I know he is signed for a couple more ye ...(more)

Some of these will be no brainers, but here are MY priorities for the Braves this offseason - Wren may have different ones, we'll see.

1.  Hudson.  Huddy's situation is the keystone that will hold the Arch of the offseason together.  If we buy him out, then we really can't feel comfortable with shopping KK, Lowe ...(more)

The Brewers are looking for starting pitching, and that's what the Braves have.
We send them Javier Vasquez, Kris Medlin and Jordan Schafer for Ryan Braun (sign him long term to a similar deal that we gave BMa

Let Derek Lowe go for a bucket of balls?  Seriously if someone like the Yankees want him (which I hear they are looking for at least 1 starter for next year), just let him go...

You then go out and sign

The AJC and ESPN are reporting that the Braves and Hudson are close to getting a deal done and he may sign at the first of next week. Saying 3 years at around 9 million dollars. My question is, if this comes to fruition, which one of these do we trade for the bat, Javier V. or Lowe? I hope it is Lowe, but probably will get more for Ja ...(more)

All right we need 2 bats. I have 2 different ideas.

First trade Vazquez and Freeman for Fielder and cash. Then trade a pick or low level prospect for Alex Rios. Resign Hudson.

2nd trade Freeman, Medlin, and B. Jones for Billy B

Xavier Nady's name has popped up as a possible Free Agent for the Braves.  He prob. could be had for a 3 year deal in the 6 million range, with that saying we would have to make sure his surgically repaired elbow is 100%...

Also Cantu and Uggla both have su

On the CBS website it shows the Braves have signed Tim Hudson.  Does anyone know if the deal is done and what he signed for?
I took a break and read more and it states that it's a done deal and will be announced after the WS which is over now.  The Br

Yes I said it.  Give in to the high demands of Scott Boras and sign Matt Holliday no matter what the cost.  Give Boras his typical no trade clause that he is so crazy about.  Back load the contract so that by the time it gets into serious money we have ...(more)

Yikes! I just read where our front office braintrust is supposedly pondering an acquisition of Matt Capps from Pittsburgh($2.3 mil./2 yrs arbitration left) to assume our closer role!?! Hey! We need to acquire a closer, big bat and speedy leadoff guy and I think we can compete with ANYONE in MLB.  We have the rotation and leadership to.
