Take a deep breath and relax. Right fielder Jeff Francoeur has not been demoted the way you think he has. Especially not all the way to Class AA Mississippi.

That destination was his choice. General manager Frank Wren asked Francoeur where he thought he'd feel most comfortable working on getting his swing back, and Francoeur produced some of his best offense under M-Braves manager Phillip Wellman.

Going down in the first place, though, was not Francoeur's choice.

Wren started thinking about that three weeks ago, and the conviction grew last weekend when the team was in Toronto. Francoeur's 1-for-12 performance in the Phillies series sealed it.

Wren and manager Bobby Cox handled it as sensitively as possible, delaying telling Francoeur until the press left the clubhouse Thursday. And both of them put the best face on the situation while talking to reporters Friday.

"We don't even really look at it as a demotion," Wren said. "We look at it as stepping back for a few days and decompressing and getting his game going."

"It's not a demotion," Cox said. "It's just a short period of time."

A specific period of time, it turns out: Francoeur will be back after the All-Star break.

But the only way Francoeur can get out of this slump is to swing his way out of it. That doesn't happen if he's benched, and it wasn't happening facing major league pitching.

"At the end of the day," Wren says, "there really wasn't a Plan B. Plan B was just watching and hoping."

Longtime friend and teammate Brian McCann's reaction? "Brutal."

BRAVES 6, ASTROS 2: The Braves got their first lead in a game in their last 47 innings when 1B Mark Teixeira scored in the second inning. RHP Tim Hudson gave up only one earned run in seven innings, and rookie RF Jason Perry tripled in his first major league at-bat.

...according to Inside Edge Player Rating, was the top starting pitcher in all of Major League Baseball last season. Here's an explanation of how IE's rating system works(from ESPN.com):

Every pitch is given a value, whether it be a first pitch taken for a strike or a 2-0 pitch driven for a double. The value placed on each pitch is derived empirically, ba ...(more)

Some of these will be no brainers, but here are MY priorities for the Braves this offseason - Wren may have different ones, we'll see.

1.  Hudson.  Huddy's situation is the keystone that will hold the Arch of the offseason together.  If we buy him out, then we really can't feel comfortable with shopping KK, Lowe ...(more)

The younger Carey is no longer affiliated with TBS as reported.  You know after reading that article I want to let everyone know how I feel about Braves announcers.

I wish they would get Don Sutton and find a new Pete Van Wieren.  I don't mind the idea of Brian Jordan or Ryan Gant calling Braves games simply because the

I thing the Angels are going to lose Lackey and they will be willing to listen to a deal for Lowe.  If we offer them 2 mil per year on his contract plus one or two minor league players (not on the Braves 40 man roster) I thing we could get Rivera and Evans (plays OF & 3B).&n ...(more)

Before you bust an artery chuckling on this idea...ponder it before clicking away to better entertain yourself. Okay...since you are still here, I'll try to keep your attention the best way I can. How about a trade involving the Chicago White Sox' Paul Konerko and ...(more)

I read that the Braves are interested in Miguel especially since the Tigers might be talked into eating 5 million a year of his contract, that is well worth a trade that includes Jordan Schafer and ...(more)

Guys --

Are you aware that Ted Turner (a few weeks ago) appeared on Good Morning America and declared publicly his intentions to buy back the Braves?  That would be great if so.  He's not afraid to spend money.  Think about that.  If he did that quickly, maybe we could move in on Holliday or Bay.

I think about eveyone is ready to write Derek Lowe off. Yes, he had somewhat of an up and down season, but I don't think I'm comfortable with Atlanta wanting to just dump him off for anything. He is still (IMO) a front line starter. He won 15 games, and he was really lights out when he was on. He has admitted there was something wr ...(more)

If the Brave even simply DUMP Lowe's salary for prospects and a long releif guy they will have the money to pick up both Dye and Adam LaRoche.  Adam can get done for a 3 year 27 million dollar deal.  I don't see what all the fuss is about concerning Freeman and 1st base.

The Team would structure  Adam's deal at 8 million, 9 million, and 10 million with a buy out op

What about a trade for Gaines Adams? He is a pretty good player and will be better than anyone we can get in the draft. He is probably cheap too. He doesn't even start for them but he probably would with us.

This is just a far fetched idea but if we get a pick in the 20s trade the Chiefs our pick and get our old 2nd round pick and theirs too. Then we can send the bears our old 2nd

Ok so we give Derek Lowe away for a middle reliever and a prospect (that's all we can hope for), unless we want to eat part of his contract...
Now we trade Javier Vasquez and B.Jones for Nelson Cruz.  So we just freed up 26.5 million in payroll + 6 million (for soriano)

Now we make a trade for
