If the Orioles are aiming to make a free agent splash, Jermaine Dye could be the big fish at a reasonable cost the club covets.

A FOXsports.com report noted Dye would be willing to play first base in 2010 and beyond, and it linked the former White Sox outfielder to Baltimore.

It would be an ideal fit for both: The Orioles landing a right-handed slugger to fill the cleanup void, and Dye finding a low-profile home -- complete with a saliva-generating 364-foot left-center field power alley -- to transition to first base.

The Orioles seem inclined to go with a veteran willing to sign a short-term contract because of the presence of first baseman Brandon Snyder and third baseman Josh Bell, both of whom are likely to begin 2009 at Class AAA Norfolk.

"All things being equal, if we can go short-term at the corner infield positions, we would look at that," president Andy MacPhail told MASNsports.com. "You could be influenced on whether it's a right or lefty hitter and who you could sign first at that position."

Dye would be an ideal fit for the Orioles, but he's not the only option on the free agent market. The club has been tied, via the rumor mill, to first basemen Carlos Delgado and Nick Johnson, and third basemen Adrian Beltre and Pedro Feliz.

Some reports indicate the club would be a player in trade talks for San Diego first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, but MacPhail has said publicly he's not in favor of trading his pitching prospects.

The club has internal options at first base, including Ty Wigginton and outfielder-turned-DH Luke Scott. Michael Aubrey, acquired from Cleveland in August, logged significant innings in late 2009 and could open in a platoon role in 2010.

This isn't really Orioles related, but it's something I've been thinking about lately and surfing the net a little for people making this argument (very few) and those articles and responses to them have made me curious enough to bring it up here to see what the thoughts are since I think he should get into the HOF. Now, I know you' ...(more)

I though we could have a little fun by predicting what the O's will do this winter. Go ahead and list 5 players you think that Baltimore may acquire via trade, sign in free agency, or re-sign. Then, let's see who comes closest. This is reality not a wish list.

My predictions are as follows:

1. 3B

Good news finally that clown of a commisioner in Bud Selig is gonna step down in 2011. Reports are that he was talked out of it a few times and Im wondering WHY myself.

Bad news is there is a short list of people to replace him and guess whos on the list? Andy Macphail. Whatever magic AM is gonna work to turn the Orioles around

With a down economy, multiple teams crying poor and little money invested in future payrolls, the Orioles are perhaps in a better financial position this offseason than they have been in more than a decade.

As free agency begins today, the Orioles have just $29.5 million dedicated to six players for next season. With salary arbit

Radhames Liz was taken off the 40 man roster late last week as an attempt to sneak him from a waiver claim.  It did not work and he was claimed by the Padres.  It leaves the team with an open roster spot for the rule 5 draft.

Just read this on MLBTR.  Joe Jordan discussing our draft picks this year.  The future looks bright especially if these were picks 6-10.

Round 6 - Catcher Justin Dalles from the Univ. of South Carolina.

A right-handed hitter from Lake Worth, Florida taken with the 176th pick, he hit .324-15-47 in college in 2009.

Ive been reading a lot of rumors about bringing Bedard back to Baltimore.  To be honest i am all for it, look when Bedard is healthy he is one of the best pitchers in baseball and as far as him being a jerk i could care less as long as he pitches well every 5 days i dont care how much of a jerk he is.  What does everybody else think about Bedard in orange and black again.
