The frustrating at-bats are still there. But for every ill-advised swing leading to a strikeout, Adam Jones can be seen in another plate appearance showing signs of stardom.

The Orioles center fielder went 2-for-4 Friday and has hit in eight consecutive games. He's batting .469 (15-for-32) in that stretch, and since June 1 he has batted .336 (38-for-113) to raise his average 34 points to .279.

Manager Dave Trembley attributes Jones' improvement to better pitch recognition. Jones often has been overmatched against tough breaking balls.

"One of the things I've been working on is having good at-bats," Jones said. "Make the pitcher throw five or six pitches to one hitter, it can turn out to be something good. Laying off the junk."

Jones was the Orioles' most noteworthy addition of the offseason, coming east in the trade that sent ace left-hander Erik Bedard to Seattle. He was anointed the everyday center fielder, and the club has been patient with him through tough times.

Jones' biggest drawback is his plate discipline. He came to Baltimore with the reputation of being a free swinger, and he's lived up to that title for the most part. Jones has struck out 73 times and walked just 16, putting him on pace for 139 strikeouts and 30 free passes.

Above all else, though, the former shortstop has also settled into his role defensively. The athletic, 6-foot-2, 210-pound defender glides easily through the outfield, and has made the difficult catches look routine. He's been playing shallow in center field of late, drawing comparisons to former Orioles outfielder Paul Blair.

ORIOLES 10, RANGERS 4: The top and bottom thirds of the Orioles lineup accounted for every RBI and 10 of 12 hits. Starter Jeremy Guthrie (5-7) lasted 6 1/3 innings, scattering eight hits and four runs for the Orioles, who have won in three of their ace's last four starts.

As most of you know, I'm a big fan of Rich J. Hill. Hill, howvever, has had more poundings than gems. His stuff is very good. The problem is that he needs good instruction. That's a dilemna because he is out of options and certainly won't pass through waivers. If Scott McGregor could have this kid for a couple a months, its possi ...(more)

The Orioles have been fairly streaky during the 2 nd quarter of games, but overall have done a little better than the first quarter.  They were at 20-20 in games 41-80 before losing their last 3 games to make it 20-23.  Therefore they hung around the .500 mark, which is pret ...(more)

Time for Rich J. Hill to go.  NOW!  Some will say that he has talent and we should give him a chance.  Didn't we hear/do that about/with Daniel Cabrera, Garrett Olson, and Radhames ...(more)

It seems as though the Orioles are on the verge of signing 16 year old dominican shortstop Miguel Angel Sano.  The deal could be higher than the $2.4 million that Matt Hobgood signed for this year.  He is considered a mid to late first round talent.  The Orioles are waiting for MLB to get back about his age and identity ...(more)

For about, oh 10,11 or 12 years now the O's fans have endured "rebuilding". Granted there have been changes in the Front Office resulting in "re-evaluations", but nevertheless I am somewhat confused. How do we, as fans, know when to invest our emotions(i.e. loyalty) in any particular player? I was born the year the Oriole ...(more)

Glad to see the bats woke up tonight against the Ms but why heading into a day game tommorow are your starters still in the game in the 7th inning with a 9 run lead? Why didnt you leave Albers in for an extra inning of work? Chances are he wont get to pitch tommorow. Guithrie was hurting obviously and Hendrickson did an excellent job picking him up.

This is what continueously frustrate

One move that could be made depending on Guthrie heading to the DL.  Why not try to place either Felix Pie or Oscar Salazar on optional waivers to see if their is a taker?  They can pull back players on optional waivers, but another move has to be made ...(more)

I cant remember the last time this guy had a big hit, meanwhile Salazaar has been up for almost a month and has seen about an at bat a game during that time. Mora isnt in the long term plans and isnt under contract after this year. Mora cant run anymore period and he does flash the leather every now and again but that certainly doesnt warrant starting a full nine game in and game out, well at leas ...(more)

My goodness.  I know the team was hitless over the last 24 batters, but Brad Bergensen had snake oil on the ball.  His pitch count was high, but he still had to go out in the 9th.  The team is heading west and the All-Star break is a week and half away.  If there were a time for a rookie to make his complete game, this was it.

He has made some tough call moves, but m

When you look at the total body of work his mid-season stats are very impressive.......however if you look at the last 35 games, almost one quarter of the season, he only has 1 HR.  What is physically wrong with Adam Jones, if anything?  He is making good contact and still hits for average.......I am quite

B.J Ryan was just released by the Blue Jays and the team is in need of a solid bullpen option in the back end as well.  He has been shaky this year, but as we know pitchers are creatures of habit.  Could a re-hash of scenery in the orange and black be in order for the Oriole ...(more)

(POLL) Just heard the Marlins might pony up for Sherrill according to www.mlbtraderumors.com. He has been lights out lately and might not easily be replaced. My question is would you trade him?

I was curious if anyone knew the rotation for Bowie and when he might pitch again in Bowie.  I just read the ESPN article about our three studs and wanted to see him pitch.  Any help would be great.  Thanks!
