The frustrating at-bats are still there. But for every ill-advised swing leading to a strikeout, Adam Jones can be seen in another plate appearance showing signs of stardom.

The Orioles center fielder went 2-for-4 Friday and has hit in eight consecutive games. He's batting .469 (15-for-32) in that stretch, and since June 1 he has batted .336 (38-for-113) to raise his average 34 points to .279.

Manager Dave Trembley attributes Jones' improvement to better pitch recognition. Jones often has been overmatched against tough breaking balls.

"One of the things I've been working on is having good at-bats," Jones said. "Make the pitcher throw five or six pitches to one hitter, it can turn out to be something good. Laying off the junk."

Jones was the Orioles' most noteworthy addition of the offseason, coming east in the trade that sent ace left-hander Erik Bedard to Seattle. He was anointed the everyday center fielder, and the club has been patient with him through tough times.

Jones' biggest drawback is his plate discipline. He came to Baltimore with the reputation of being a free swinger, and he's lived up to that title for the most part. Jones has struck out 73 times and walked just 16, putting him on pace for 139 strikeouts and 30 free passes.

Above all else, though, the former shortstop has also settled into his role defensively. The athletic, 6-foot-2, 210-pound defender glides easily through the outfield, and has made the difficult catches look routine. He's been playing shallow in center field of late, drawing comparisons to former Orioles outfielder Paul Blair.

ORIOLES 10, RANGERS 4: The top and bottom thirds of the Orioles lineup accounted for every RBI and 10 of 12 hits. Starter Jeremy Guthrie (5-7) lasted 6 1/3 innings, scattering eight hits and four runs for the Orioles, who have won in three of their ace's last four starts.

Think that the Os would go after him, since he isnt gonna cost them TYPE  A compensation? He fills a short term gap and he was a 3b before, he also is a good number 2 hitter.

Its getting interesting to say the least, oh and Rich Harden wasnt offered arbitration either. It appears every available player is opting for free agency given the market for free agents isnt all that att ...(more)

This isn't really Orioles related, but it's something I've been thinking about lately and surfing the net a little for people making this argument (very few) and those articles and responses to them have made me curious enough to bring it up here to see what the thoughts are since I think he should get into the HOF. Now, I know you' ...(more)

I though we could have a little fun by predicting what the O's will do this winter. Go ahead and list 5 players you think that Baltimore may acquire via trade, sign in free agency, or re-sign. Then, let's see who comes closest. This is reality not a wish list.

My predictions are as follows:

1. 3B

Good news finally that clown of a commisioner in Bud Selig is gonna step down in 2011. Reports are that he was talked out of it a few times and Im wondering WHY myself.

Bad news is there is a short list of people to replace him and guess whos on the list? Andy Macphail. Whatever magic AM is gonna work to turn the Orioles around

With a down economy, multiple teams crying poor and little money invested in future payrolls, the Orioles are perhaps in a better financial position this offseason than they have been in more than a decade.

As free agency begins today, the Orioles have just $29.5 million dedicated to six players for next season. With salary arbit

Radhames Liz was taken off the 40 man roster late last week as an attempt to sneak him from a waiver claim.  It did not work and he was claimed by the Padres.  It leaves the team with an open roster spot for the rule 5 draft.

Just read this on MLBTR.  Joe Jordan discussing our draft picks this year.  The future looks bright especially if these were picks 6-10.

Round 6 - Catcher Justin Dalles from the Univ. of South Carolina.

A right-handed hitter from Lake Worth, Florida taken with the 176th pick, he hit .324-15-47 in college in 2009.
