Luke Scott has become known as much for his political opinions as he has his streaky power hitting.
Scott, not shy to admit he's a conservative, has on more than one occasion questioned whether President Barack Obama was born in the United States.
Despite the state of Hawaii recently releasing Obama's birth certificate, showing he was born there, Scott isn't backing off.
Before the Orioles' 3-2 win at Kansas City on Wednesday, he told The Kansas City Star, "(Obama's) birth certificate has yet to be validated. If they can counterfeit $100 bills, I think it's a million times easier to counterfeit a birth certificate, if you ask me. So, all it is, let's just see if it's real. Anybody can produce a document, so let's check it out."
Scott is a believer in the right to bear arms, and he has stated in various forums his history with carrying firearms. He said he doesn't carry one into the clubhouse.
While many athletes shy away from making political statements, Scott sees his status as a public persona as a reason to tout his beliefs.
"We all have that responsibility as Americans," Scott said. "Whatever platform you have, large or small, fight for what's right."
