Baby Birds come through

The young Orioles came to play.

Adam Jones, Nick Markakis and Matt Wieters played significant roles in the Orioles' 7-6, 13-inning win over the Mariners on Tuesday night.

Jones doubled twice amid a 3-for-6 night, driving in three runs. Markakis was 3-for-6 with a walk and a run, and his leadoff single sparked a two-run rally in the 13th.

Wieters was 2-for-7 with the game-winning RBI. He went 2-for-5 with runners in scoring position Tuesday, continuing a torrid start to the 2011 season in clutch situations. He is 12-for-20 in opportunities with runners in scoring position.

The Orioles' lineup is chock full of veterans -- with Brian Roberts batting leadoff, Derrek Lee hitting third and Vladimir Guerrero hitting fourth -- but the key to the offense is the younger players.

There has been speculation about shuffling the batting order to put some of that young talent into more prime positions in the order. On Tuesday, it seemed as if those young players were showing they are ready for larger roles.
