Britton doesn't get just rewards for fine outing

Notes, Quotes · Britton doesn't get just rewards for fine outing · Roster Report

Zach Britton threw his first shutout Thursday. Sort of.

The rookie allowed three hits in nine scoreless innings, walking none and striking out five. However, he didn't get the complete game. Or the shutout. Or the win.

In perhaps his most stellar performance to date, Britton got no run support in a game the Orioles eventually won 2-1 in 12 innings.

Britton said it was the first time he's ever gone nine innings in his pro career.

He threw 108 pitches, 76 for strikes, and tossed first-pitch strikes to 21 of 29 batters. He was able to keep the pitch count in decent shape by getting 12 groundball outs.

While he hasn't yet spent two full months in the majors, Britton is becoming a stopper in the Orioles rotation.

Britton and currently rehabbing Brian Matusz give the Orioles two stellar lefties to stabilize their starting staff.
