Roster Report · Matusz set to start rehab assignment Monday · Notes, Quotes

--RHP Jeremy Guthrie got little run support -- again. And lost -- again. The Orioles ace went eight solid innings Friday in Baltimore's 3-0 loss at Tampa Bay, falling to 1-6. Guthrie was touched for a pair of home runs, a solo blast from Johnny Damon and a two-run shot by Matt Joyce. Guthrie walked two and threw first-pitch strikes to only 16 of the 31 batters he faced, helping to elevate his pitch count.

--RHP Justin Duchscherer threw two innings in an extended spring training game Friday and is set to throw three innings in five or six days. He threw 23 of 26 pitches for strikes. Duchscherer began the season on the disabled list due to a sore left hip, but he subsequently was slowed by back pain.

--DH Vladimir Guerrero rested for just the second time in 37 games this season. Guerrero got the night off, providing OF Felix Pie another shot at the lineup. Pie started in left, and OF/DH Luke Scott served as designated hitter. Both went 0-for-3.

--C Matt Wieters will get Saturday off, the Baltimore Sun reported. Wieters was 1-for-3 Friday and is 8-for-22 in the last five games. Days off have been seldom for Wieters, who is likely to give way to C/INF Jake Fox.

--3B Mark Reynolds batted ninth Friday as the Orioles try to allow him to hit his way out of a season-long slump. Reynolds, notorious for his high strikeout totals, has gotten on base at times, but his average is .178, and his power numbers have come nowhere near the levels the Orioles expected. He has the benefit of having a pretty strong grip on the starting job. Reynolds went 1-for-3 in the loss at Tampa Bay.

0 -- Extra-base hits Thursday in Baltimore's 2-1, 12-inning win over Seattle. The last time an extra-inning game ended with no extra-base hits was a 10-inning win by San Francisco against Pittsburgh in July 2009.

"We've got to figure it out. Just because we're facing good pitching -- that's why they call it the major leagues. You've got to figure it out" -- Manager Buck Showalter, to MASN, on the Orioles' offensive woes.
