--LHP Jake Arrieta admitted he didn't have his best stuff and took responsibility in dropping Friday's game in such grand fashion. The Nationals got to Arrieta, chasing him with two outs in the fourth after he had allowed three walks, six hits and six runs. It was a rare poor start for Arrieta, who fell to 5-2 with a 4.75 ERA.
--2B Ryan Adams was added to the big league roster Friday when the Orioles purchased his contract from Class AAA Norfolk. Adams, 24, opened eyes in spring training but did not make the club. He was batting .303 with two home runs and eight runs batted in upon his recall. He said he was surprised to get the call.
--OF Nolan Reimold was not expecting to be recalled when he was Friday. The right-handed batting slugger was hitting just .237 with six homers and 22 RBIs in 39 games with Norfolk. Reimold will share at-bats in left field with OF Felix Pie.
--LF/DH Luke Scott will be playing more first base, with the return of Nolan Reimold to the big league roster. Scott, who is battling a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder, has played first base with 1B Derrek Lee on the disabled list.
--LHP Mike Gonzalez is really struggling. After he was ejected earlier this week, after it was assumed he hit a batter intentionally. He pitched two innings Friday, allowing two runs on two hits -- both home runs. His ERA has jumped to 7.15 after Friday. He has allowed earned runs in four-of-five starts.
BY THE NUMBERS
6 -- Home runs by the Nationals in Friday's loss.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"I'm not smug enough to sit here and tell you what's going to happen. That's why we play the games." -- Manager Buck Showalter when asked the direction, as he sees it, of the 2011 Orioles.
