--CF Adam Jones didn't start in Monday's loss after leaving Sunday's game because of right shoulder soreness. He did enter as a pinch-runner late in the game. The Baltimore Sun reported that Jones worked out before Monday's game, including throws with first base coach Wayne Kirby. Jones said he felt better and hoped to be in the Tuesday lineup.
--RHP Jake Arrieta had his worst start of the season Monday, lasting only 2 1/3 innings and leaving with a 4-1 deficit. Arrieta walked four and allowed four hits. He struck out three, but needed 68 pitches to get seven outs. Arrieta fell to 6-3 as his ERA climbed to 4.97.
--RHP Alfredo Simon put forth a good audition Monday for a potential spot start in the near future. Simon provided some rest for the bullpen, surrendering two hits and a walk in 3 2/3 innings of long relief. Simon struck out four on 43 pitches in his scoreless appearance.
--LHP Pedro Viola helped save the bullpen in his first outing of 2011. Viola, recalled recently, struck out two in 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief. He gave way to RHP Jim Johnson for the final out.
--RHP Chris Jakubauskas was recalled from Class-AAA Norfolk before Sunday's game. He returned after four games with the Orioles earlier this season, having pitched to a 7.59 ERA. He was 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA in five starts for Class-AAA Norfolk.
