MEDICAL WATCH:

3B Mike Lowell (partially torn labrum in right hip) sat out Sept. 17-25. He returned to action Sept. 26 but left the game with soreness and didn't play Sept. 27 or 28. He played Game 1 and 3 in the AL Division Series but was still having trouble with the hip, and on Oct. 6 he was deactivated, which means he's out until at least the World Series.

RF J.D. Drew (herniated disk in lower back) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 18. He was activated Sept. 8, although he didn't play Sept. 8-23. He played for a few innings Sept. 24, sat out Sept. 25-27 and played seven innings Sept. 28. He started the first two games of the AL Division Series, didn't start Game 3 but was back in the lineup for Game 4.

SS Julio Lugo (strained left quadriceps) went on the 15-day disabled list July 12, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on Aug. 29. He had a setback Aug. 20, delaying a possible rehab assignment. He felt tenderness while fielding groundballs Sept. 20, leaving his return in question.

RHP Curt Schilling (sore right shoulder) began experiencing discomfort during the offseason, and he opened the season on the 60-day disabled list. He began throwing in early May, and he threw off a mound for the first time June 4. He experienced a setback in mid-June, and he had season-ending surgery June 23.
