Manager Dusty Baker has an interesting theory about why his Cincinnati Reds are 19-10 at home and 11-24 on the road.

"People keep asking, man, and I don't know, I really don't know," Baker said. "Some of it, maybe, is that our team is built around the home run. That's part of it, possibly. Parks on the road aren't as conducive to home runs compared to our park. Only Philly (Citizens Bank Park) compares to our park in giving up home runs."

The Reds return home Tuesday with a losing record in 20 of their last 21 trips, but what awaits them isn't pleasant -- three with St. Louis, three with Boston, three with Los Angeles.

Then comes another rugged road assignment -- an interleague trip with three games each in New York (against the Yankees), Toronto and Cleveland.

Perhaps the team will play looser now that Ken Griffey Jr. has become the sixth player in history to hit 600 home runs. Now that the Reds aren't holding their collective breath waiting for that milestone, a more relaxed squad may not squeeze their bats quite as tightly away from home.

REDS 9, MARLINS 4: Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 600th career home run in the first inning, a two-run blast off Mark Hendrickson. It was Edinson Volquez's ninth victory, although he gave up three earned runs, the first time he has given up more than two earned runs this year in his 13th start. Paul Bako hit two homers and drove in five runs.

With the opening of free agent season, the Reds have made a few moves and alterations to their roster.  First of all, Laynce Nix declined an assignment to the minors and elected to become a free agent, so he is gone in all likelihood.  ...(more)

A few weeks ago I made the statement that the Reds bring in somewhere around $120 million a year when all is said and done. One of the regulars on here who always puts his 2 cents worth said it wasn’t true. The following is from a story in The Daily News.

–Ben Badler of Baseball America wrote this about Reds outfield prospect Chris Heisey: . . . Heisey has gone from a 17th round pick in 2006 to knocking on the big league door . He’s played all three outfield spots for the Peoria Saguaros and hit .320/.400/.667 ...(more)

Ok I know that signing Bay is unrealistic but still this guy would kill in a Reds uniform. If you look at his numbers when playing at Great American Ball park, they are crazy!!!! We need a solid LF (Check), A right handed power bat in the middle of the order (Check), A consistent hitter in the lineup with veteran leadership (Check). This is ...(more)

There's not a lot going on right now on this board, And I know we have hashed out about every scenario known to us. But just to get something going, What kind of moves do you think the Reds will make this off season.

Is Janish going to be our starting short stop? or do you think they will try to find a free agent or trade f

Basbeall America has released it's list of the top-10 best prospects for the Reds, and it is rather interesting, because it's not quite the order most would probably expect.  It's also interesting because it rates the players for their "tools," i.e, best hitter for power, best outfield arm, etc.

Here is a name we through out to try and get mid season. I am wondering if anyone here thinks it is a good deal.

Mark DeRosa.

He can play all 4 infield positions and came up as a SS with the Braves..

Ramon is back on a 1 year/$3 mil deal... there is a vesting option for 2011, where if Hernandez plays in 120 games in 2010, he would return on a in 2011 for $3.25 mil.  Good deal all the way around.

It's pretty slow when the biggest news at the GM meetings was Griffey signing for $3 mil with the Mariners.

Don't get me wrong, I fully appreciate KGJ is a Hall-of Famer, supposedly without any PED help...He had an amazing career.

But what makes me chuckle is the media report that Griffey means so much to Seattle beca

Dayton Dragons announced Thursday that Ken Griffey (that would be Senior not Junior) was named hitting instructor for the Reds Class A Midwest League team.

It doesn't mean much. I had been led to believe that Griffey was in poor health. I guess not.

Doesn anyone know when the Reds check into their AZ spring home yet? I know the series isn't even over yet but I just get excited for some odd reason. I guess its because its been about 7 months since the Reds were in contention for anything important. Seriously, if any of you know this, it will be greatly appreciatted.

NL Gold Gloves came out today with Brandon Phillips (reigning gold glover at 2B) getting ousted by the previous winner Orlando Hudson. What a crock! They both had a .988 fielding percentage, and Phillips only had 1 more error in 50 more attempts than Hudson. Plu ...(more)
