The Reds are exactly where they were after 29 games last year: one game under .500.
Last year, they ran off nine wins in 10 games after the 14-15 start.
The big change was that the starting pitching came around. The starters went 8-1 during that 10-game span.
The Reds are about to change two-fifths of their rotation. Homer Bailey will start Thursday in the final of game of the Houston series. Johnny Cueto will start Sunday in the final game of the Chicago series at Wrigley.
Both have been on the disabled list all year. Mike Leake, the starter and loser in Tuesday's 10-4 blowout, will move to the bullpen.
"Coming out of spring training, (Leake) was going to be our long guy," Baker said. "He performed well in those other guys' absence. Tonight was the first time he got whacked around in awhile."
