--1B Joey Votto singled in his final at-bat Wednesday to extend his on-base streak to 30 games. Votto's streak is four short of Dave Collins' club record for the start of the season.
--LHP Travis Wood bounced back from awful start (3 1/3 innings, seven runs) with a quality start. He went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits Wednesday against Houston. The Reds had gone five games without a quality start.
--INF Miguel Cairo pinch-hit Wednesday and grounded out. It was his first appearance in four days, as he's been dealing with a leg injury. Cairo's absence means the Reds are without their top three third baseman. Scott Rolen and Juan Francisco are on the disabled list.
--OF Dave Sappelt, one of the stars of spring training, did not play in either game of Class AAA Louisville's doubleheader Tuesday. He is dealing with a mild side strain. Sappelt is hitting .341/.417/.588 for Louisville.
--LHP Bill Bray put up another 1-2-3 inning Wednesday. Bray has only allowed 10 baserunners in 11 2/3 innings this season. His ERA is 0.77.
BY THE NUMBERS
4 -- Perfect first innings for the Reds this year after Travis Wood's 1-2-3 first inning Wednesday.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"It's still hard to believe. We get one hit (through eight innings) and then we send five to plate without making an out. Hitting's contagious. It kind of snowballs. On the other side, we've been through it. The last three outs are the hardest to get." -- OF Chris Heisey, on the Reds' 3-2 win over the Astros on Wednesday.
