--RHP Josh Tomlin, who hadn't allowed four runs in any of his first nine starts this season, gave up four runs in the second inning Friday in losing for just the second time this season. Tomlin did manage to pitch six innings, the 22th time in 22 career starts that he's pitched five or more innings.
--OF Grady Sizemore, as expected, was activated off the disabled list Friday. Sizemore had been on the DL since May 16 with a right knee contusion. As a precaution, Manager Manny Acta said Sizemore will be the Indians' DH, and not play center field during the three game series, in order to protect Sizemore's knee from the wear and tear of playing on the artificial turf of Tropicana Field. Sizemore also hit seventh instead of leadoff, something Acta said he will do until Sizemore gets his timing back after missing the last two weeks.
--OF Shin-Soo Choo was given a day off Friday versus Tampa Bay LHP David Price. Choo in his career versus Price is 2-for-10, with 4 strikeouts.
--C Carlos Santana doubled in his first at-bat Friday, snapping his 0-for-19 hitless streak. Santana was also moved down to the No.7 spot in the lineup, the first time in 43 games started this season that he didn't bat fourth.
--SS Asdrubal Cabrera got a rare start in the No.3 spot in the batting order Friday. Cabrera hit third in place of OF Shin-Soo Choo, who was given the night off. Choo is expected to be back in the lineup, hitting third, on Saturday, with Cabrera returning to his normal No.2 spot in the order.
BY THE NUMBERS
9 -- Home runs allowed by RHP Josh Tomlin. However, seven of the nine homers are solo homers.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"After the first 20 games of last year, he's been pitched like Babe Ruth. He earned their respect pretty quick. Now he has to make an adjustment. It's simple as that." -- Manager Manny Acta, on the adjustments made by opposing pitchers when pitching to C Carlos Santana, who hit well in his first month with the Indians last season as a rookie, but has struggled ever since.
