Royals designated hitter/first baseman Kila Ka'aihue did not start Tuesday against Twins left-hander Brian Duensing, the first time this season he was not in the lineup.

And Ka'aihue probably will be on the bench Wednesday when the Royals face Minnesota lefty Francisco Liriano in the finale of this two-game series.

"We'll give him a break today and maybe tomorrow, too," Royals manager Ned Yost said Tuesday before the Royals lost 4-3 in 10 innings at Minnesota. "These guys are tough on left-handed hitters."

Ka'aihue is hitting .176 with 13 strikeouts in 34 at-bats this season. He is hitting .145 (2-for-13) against left-handers.

Yost said Ka'aihue has been working on some things with hitting coach Kevin Seitzer and had a great batting practice Tuesday.

"As good as you'd want to see," Yost said.
