--LHP Jeff Francis has made three consecutive quality starts for the first time since a four-game stretch in June 2010, when he was with the Rockies. Francis held the Twins to three hits and eight hits in seven innings Tuesday in his third straight no-decision as a Royal. He walked one and struck out five.

--INF Mike Aviles, who did not play in the three-game weekend series at Detroit, was back in the lineup Tuesday at Minnesota as the designated hitter for only the second time in his career. While Aviles did walk and drive in a run with a sacrifice fly, he went 0-for-2, leaving him hitless in his past 17 at-bats. His average is down to .107.

--INF Wilson Betemit, who had four hits Sunday against the Tigers to match his career high, remained in the lineup at third base Tuesday for the fourth consecutive game. Betemit went 2-for-4 with an RBI, raising his average to .400. He was the lone Royal with more than one hit.

--LHP Tim Collins and RHP Aaron Crow, both rookies, had similar lines against the Twins. Crow pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, walking one and striking out one. Collins pitched a scoreless inning, gave up a hit and struck out one. Both have a 0.00 ERA for the season.

--LHP Noel Arguelles made his pro debut Monday, throwing four scoreless innings for high Class A Wilmington (Del.) in a 4-1 verdict over Kinston. He allowed two singles, struck out one and walked none. Arguelles, 21, a Cuban defector, received a $6.9 million signing bonus from the Royals in January 2010. He did not pitch last year because of a shoulder injury. The Royals plan to keep Arguelles on a strict pitch count this season.

0 -- Batters RHP Robinson Tejeda retired Tuesday, giving up a run on three hits and a walk in the 10th inning to take the loss.

"He just didn't throw strikes. He was all over the place. He's got to get his feet under him and get a couple of good starts, then we'll look at it again," -- Royals manager Ned Yost, on RHP Vin Mazzaro, who walked seven and hit a batter in 2 1/3 innings Sunday for Class AAA Omaha. Mazzaro was originally scheduled be summoned for a Saturday start against the Mariners, but that has been put on hold.
