MEDICAL WATCH:

1B-OF Mark Sweeney (strained right hamstring) was placed on the disabled list July 4.

2B Jeff Kent (lower back) left the game July 3 but was back in the lineup July 4.

SS Rafael Furcal (lower back tightness) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 6. He was expected to be activated May 23 but was sore that morning. He started a rehab assignment with Class AAA Las Vegas on June 30, and he felt discomfort in his back the next morning. He was examined in Los Angeles on July 2 and will have surgery on July 3 to have a disk in his lower back partially removed. He will miss at least eight more weeks, and that's a best-case scenario.

RHP Brad Penny (mild tendinitis and inflammation in right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 15. His return date has been pushed back to late in the week before the All-Star break.

LF Juan Pierre (sprained left medial collateral ligament) went on the 15-day disabled list June 30. He will miss four to six weeks.

RHP Scott Proctor (sore right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 22.

RHP Hiroki Kuroda (sore right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 13. He had an MRI on June 18 that showed tendinitis but nothing else.

OF Andruw Jones (torn cartilage in right knee) came off the disabled list July 4.

INF Nomar Garciaparra (strained right calf) was activated from the disabled list July 4.

RHP Jason Schmidt (right shoulder surgery in June 2007) opened the season on the 15-day disabled list and was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 20. He began a rehab assignment May 11. He was hit in the calf with a line drive during a rehab start on May 31, and the "new injury" extended his stay in the minors. He pitched for Class AAA Las Vegas on June 28.

C Gary Bennett (plantar fasciitis in left foot) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 19, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on June 25. He had a setback in mid-June and there was no timetable on his return.

INF Tony Abreu (sore right hip) opened the season on the 15-day disabled list, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 13. He had season-ending surgery May 28.

To borrow a recent rant from Beck, I can only take so much before blood starts shooting out of my eyes!  How much losing do we have to do before you guys GET REAL?  Yes, I agree we have to look at contingencies like Harden and others, as landing an ace like Halladay doesn't come easy.  But... NEITHER DOES WINNING CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!  Gosh Darnit, let's at least go for it!  ...(more)

MLBtraderumours.com is reporting that the Dodgers will offer nobody arbitration. Orlando Hudson is understandable, he was going to cost too much to retain, Gold Glove etc (fair or not), but i'm unsure about letting Randy Wolf go for nothing.

No compensation picks for the men in Blue.

Thoughts?

Okay so I believe that we should only make a trade for Halladay if it centers around Russell Martin. Bills is still a good pitcher and has tons of upside and could become the ace. You don't trade that away...even if at best he becomes a very good #3. If you trade Russell Martin it is easier to trade for a guy like Torreabela or o ...(more)

A little while ago, I brought up the idea of Dan Uggla coming to LA to play 2B. Well apparently Cincy is looking to dump salary and Brandon Phillips is going to be available. He is owed 19.85 million over the next 2 seasons , which a little less than 10 million ...(more)

I just posted my support for pursuit of Halladay via trade, but I also know that may not happen.  In fact, knowing the Dodgers, it probably won't happen.  So, if we are seriously looking to bolster the front end of the rotation, I ask, what about Rich Harden?  I know, I know, he's an injury risk.  But he's also as domi ...(more)

Jason Schmidt will likely retire, reports Ken Gurnick of MLB.com. Schmidt filed for free agency on Wednesday, but said he isn't planning to pitch next year and is likely to retire. Schmidt went 2-2 with a 5.61 ERA in four starts in 2009, but was hampered by problems with his surgically-repaired right shoulder in August.

This is from Ken Gurnick on Dodgers.com. Gurnick's a mouthpiece for McCourt and Colletti, so it's likely to be quite accurate unfortunately.

The long and short of it is, don't expect Hudson, Uggla, or Phillips at 2B next season, expect Craig Counsell or Juan Uribe.

And don't expect the likes of Halladay or Lackey to

According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, Orlando Hudson says he hasn't had any contact with the Dodgers since the season ended.

Do you think he'll take the mound again for the Dodgers?

1) Sure thing

3) Unlikely
4) I'd be surprised
5) No farging way

I'm saying I'd be surprised. He can't, or won't, throw inside; mebbe I'm wrong, but if I'm correct he's carrying a bad package.
