--LF Ryan Braun was back in the lineup Friday after leaving Wednesday's game with a bruised left ankle suffered when he smacked into the wall chasing a double. With a scheduled day off Thursday, Braun recovered sufficiently to play, and he drove in three runs to spark the Brewers' 5-2 victory over Pittsburgh.
--RHP Brandon Kintzler remained unavailable with triceps tendinitis despite a day off Thursday. Kintzler hasn't pitched since May 4, and manager Ron Roenicke said a player move would have to be made if the reliever doesn't recover soon.
--LHP Zach Braddock was impressive during a rehab appearance Thursday night with Class A Wisconsin, striking out all five hitters he faced. On the disabled list with sleep disorder, Braddock will be eligible to be activated Monday, but he might pitch one more time in the minors.
--RHP Alex Periard, once a top pitching prospect in the Brewers' farm system, was given his release. Periard, 23, was limited to 12 games in the minors in 2009 by shoulder problems and 15 games last year while dealing with vertigo. Periard was a 16th-round draft pick in 2004.
--RHP John Axford has been a different pitcher at home and on the road. He has not allowed an earned run in 10 home games, including a save Friday night against Pittsburgh. On the road, Axford has a 13.50 ERA in six outings (eight earned runs in 5 1/3 innings).
BY THE NUMBERS
31 -- Victories for the Brewers in their last 34 home games against Pittsburgh, dating to 2007.
QUOTE TO NOTE
