MEDICAL WATCH:

--DH Jim Thome (sore shoulder) left the May 27 game. He appeared as a pinch-hitter May 28. He had a cortisone shot in his sore shoulder May 28, and he did not play May 29.

--LHP Francisco Liriano (sore left shoulder) was scratched from his scheduled May 28 start. He reported improvement May 29 after an MRI showed inflammation in the area the previous day. If he can't throw his scheduled bullpen on May 31, he will miss his next scheduled start as well, trainer Rick McWane said.

--RHP Joe Nathan (right elbow inflammation) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 24. An MRI found no structural damage, and he expects to return by late June.

--INF Tsuyoshi Nishioka (broken left leg) went on the 15-day disabled list April 8. He was working out in Fort Myers, Fla., in early May, and he started sprinting May 16. He was cleared to play in extended spring training games May 27. He was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 28, but he still could return by mid-June.

--RHP Kevin Slowey (strained abdominal muscle) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 21. He was scheduled to rehab in extended spring training in late May.

--LHP Glen Perkins (strained oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list May 22.

--LHP Jose Mijares (left elbow strain) went on the 15-day disabled list May 15. He pitched in extended spring training May 28, and he was activated May 30.

--C Joe Mauer (bilateral leg weakness) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 13, and he was diagnosed with a viral infection April 14. He began throwing and swinging a bat May 4, and he began rehabbing in extended spring training May 18. He served as a designated hitter in extended spring training games May 24, and he might not start playing catcher until early June due to a sore shoulder.
