--SS Jose Reyes has been working out in New York but planned to head home to the Dominican Republic for the holidays.
--LF Jason Bay was uncertain whether he will participate in a minicamp with the Mets in January. The team is tentatively scheduling the minicamp for late January, and Bay said he is not likely to fly cross-country from Seattle for just one day of work.
--SS Wilmer Flores, the Mets' top hitting prospect, was hitting .337 in 28 games in the Dominican Winter League.
--LHP Oliver Perez has been inconsistent in the Mexican League, but he has thrown more innings than anyone in the Mets organization in winter ball. Manager Terry Collins and GM Sandy Alderson said that they would still like to see Perez pitch in Mexico but have not yet planned a trip.
--C Francisco Pena has played more games in the Dominican Winter League than he did all summer as he recovered from a stress fracture in his foot, but he was struggling at the plate, hitting just .182.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"I think you put a plan in place and you stick to it. You don't go away from that plan. I think sometimes you have to be patient, and sometimes with the plan you're developing, the best signing you can make is not making one. You can't go out there and succumb to different pressures just for the sake of doing something. You put a plan in place and you stick to it. That's one of the good qualities that Sandy (Alderson, the GM) brings to the table. He has that background of being extremely strict, regiments, having a plan and sticking to it. It's about discipline. I think both Sandy and Terry (Collins, the manager) bring that to the table." -- 3B David Wright on the Mets' new leadership sticking to the plan of spending little this winter.
