--GM Omar Minaya said he hasn't received a request yet from a team to interview coaches Manny Acta or Jerry Manuel for a managerial position. "I think Manny Acta and Jerry Manuel would be excellent candidates," Minaya said. Washington is believed to have interest in Acta.
--OF Endy Chavez replaced Shawn Green in right field Thursday night in Game 2. Manager Willie Randolph said he had a gut feeling when he made the move. "I've always gone with the way I feel," Randolph said. "It's not rocket science. He's a contributor to this team and has played well." Chavez beat out a bunt and scored the Mets' first run in the third, and he singled in the fifth.
--LHP Oliver Perez will start Game 4 at Los Angeles. Perez was acquired from Pittsburgh as a throw-in in the deal that also sent RHP Roberto Hernandez to the Mets in exchange for OF Xavier Nady. "I think that's a credit to our scouting," general manager Omar Minaya said of the deals that brought Perez and RHP John Maine to the Mets.
--LHP Tom Glavine made his first playoff start with the Mets on Thursday night, giving up four hits in six scoreless innings. "It took awhile, but it was worth the wait," Glavine said of finally getting to the playoffs with the Mets, with whom he signed a free-agent contract after the 2002 season.
--This is the Mets' fifth trip to the playoffs. They reached the World Series in each of the previous four.
