Roster Report · Notes, Quotes · Hot LaRoche spells ailing Pennington

--OF Coco Crisp came out of Tuesday's game in the 10th inning because of tightness in his lower back, according to manager Bob Geren. Geren said that Crisp's availability for Wednesday's day game in Chicago is 50-50.

--LHP Brian Fuentes earned saves in three consecutive games and now has four for the season while the A's usual closer, Andrew Bailey, is out with a forearm strain. Fuentes' 187 career saves are the most by a left-hander in the majors since 2005.

--SS Cliff Pennington is considered day-to-day with an infected sweat gland under his left arm, according to manager Bob Geren. Pennington is hitting .160 this season, and he has struck out seven times while failing to draw a walk.

--RHP Trevor Cahill allowed more runs, four, in the second inning Tuesday night than he'd allowed in his previous two starts combined. Cahill gave up a three-run homer to Alexei Ramirez in the inning, and the White Sox sent nine men to the plate. Cahill, who signed a five-year, $30.5 million contract extension Monday, went 4 2/3 innings and he did not allow any more runs. He gave up six hits and three walks while striking out three.

--OF Josh Willingham got his first start off of the season; he'd played every inning of the A's first 10 games. He pinch-hit in the 10th inning and struck out. Willingham leads the club with three home runs.

--LHP Brett Anderson will start Wednesday at Chicago with no wins to his credit this season despite a 1.93 ERA. The A's have scored a total of two runs in Anderson's two starts.

7-for-7 -- LHP Brian Fuentes' success rate in save opportunities vs. the White Sox over the course of his career. Fuentes has four saves for Oakland in the team's first 11 games this season.

"I think he has a chance of creating the world's largest Lego collection. Maybe he could build us a new stadium -- out of Legos." -- RHP Craig Breslow, on how RHP Trevor Cahill, known as something of a geek in the A's clubhouse, might spend the money from his new $30.5 million contract. As told to the San Francisco Chronicle.
