--C Josh Donaldson is expected to be recalled from Class AAA Sacramento on Wednesday. A's starting C Kurt Suzuki is leaving the team for the birth of his first child, but he is expected to miss only one game. Donaldson, the only minor league catcher on the team's 40-man roster, is hitting .158 at Sacramento.
--OF Coco Crisp left Tuesday's game at Anaheim in the third inning with tightness in his left quad. Crisp pulled up after sprinting to first base to prevent the Angels from turning a double play. He had recorded hits in 10 of his previous 16 at-bats.
--OF Josh Willingham was not available Tuesday at Anaheim because of tightness in his back. Willingham told the San Francisco Chronicle he'd tweaked a back muscle on a swing the previous night. He is considered day-to-day.
--RHP Andrew Bailey said that he threw a 35- to 40-pitch bullpen session, all fastballs, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, and he told the newspaper he will start to incorporate breaking pitches during flat-ground work the next few days. Bailey, who is on the disabled list with a right forearm strain, is not expected back until close to mid-May.
--1B Daric Barton was not in the starting lineup but he took lots of early batting practice in an effort to get out of a funk that has seen his average dip to .205 entering Tuesday. Manager Bob Geren had planned to have Barton watch Tuesday night's game, but Barton had to pinch-run for Coco Crisp in the third when Crisp left with tightness in his left quad. Barton went 0-for-2, dropping his average to .200.
BY THE NUMBERS
