Teixeira hits longball, Yankees make short work of A's
The A's figured this might not be a bad time to face the Yankees at home and then go on the road to play the Red Sox. After all, Oakland played some of its best baseball over the last week in winning five of six games.
Plus, the A's closer, Andrew Bailey, has just come off the disabled list for the first time all season, and the team vibe was good, the opposite of one week earlier, when Oakland had dropped six in a row and reliever Brian Fuentes criticized manager Bob Geren.
The Yankees did not cooperate, however. They used the same game plan they have most of the season in ending Oakland's four-game winning streak -- they hit the ball out of the park.
Mark Teixeira hit a two-run homer in the first and that essentially decided the game right there.
That's because the A's lineup presented few difficulties for Yankees' starter Bartolo Colon. The A's had only two runners in scoring position all day as Colon beat them with a four-hitter, 5-0.
Oakland fell back under .500.
