--RHP Vance Worley improved to 2-0 after his second start in place of injured right-hander Joe Blanton in the Phillies' rotation. Worley took a 21-inning scoreless streak, dating to last season, into the sixth inning of Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Nationals.
His scoreless streak was snapped when Adam LaRoche hit a two-out double in the sixth. Worley has a 0.75 ERA (one earned run in 12 innings) in two starts this season.
"He's good -- he's been very good," manager Charlie Manuel said. "He's got good stuff. He keeps his composure, stays focused on what he's doing."
--LHP J.C. Romero was activated off the 15-day disabled list. Romero, who suffered a right calf strain on April 18, went right back to work Wednesday, allowing one hit and striking out one in a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh.
"I'm glad everything went smooth and I'm back," Romero said before the game of being activated on the first day he was eligible to return.
--RHP David Herndon was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday to make room for left-hander J.C. Romero, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list. Herndon's 9.28 ERA ranked last among National League relievers with at least 10 appearances.
"He's fighting himself right now, trying too hard," pitching coach Rich Dubee said. "He hasn't had very good presence on the mound."
--SS Jimmy Rollins is 4-for-8 with two walks, two RBI and a stolen base in back-to-back games out of the leadoff spot. Although Rollins has batted atop the order for the majority of the last decade, he was slotted in the third spot in place of injured All-Star Chase Utley for the first 27 games of the season.
Rollins is hitting .287 in 29 games this season and might stick in the leadoff spot for a while longer.
"I think we'll see it for a while," manager Charlie Manuel said of the lineup adjustment, which has moved Placido Polanco into the third spot.
--LF Raul Ibanez hit a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning, breaking a scoreless tie in a game the Phillies eventually won 7-4. The home run was the first for Ibanez in a span of 74 at-bats.
Since extending his slump to 0-for-35 on Tuesday night, Ibanez has gone 5-for-7 with three extra-base hits.
"I feel better at the plate. I'm starting to feel comfortable," Ibanez said. "I'm not really looking back anymore, but it's definitely better this way for sure. Being able to help the team win is important."
