--C Ryan Doumit (sprained left ankle) and 3B Steve Pearce (tight right calf) both were placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday. Doumit was hurt in a home plate collision Sunday, Pearce while running the bases Saturday. Neither injury is seen as serious, though Doumit was walking with the help of crutches.

--2B/3B Josh Harrison was promoted to the majors for the first time, taking 3B Steve Pearce's place. Harrison, 23, stands only 5-foot-8 but was among Class AAA Indianapolis' top hitters in his first season at that level, batting .323 with two home runs, 11 RBI and eight steals. "It's still hitting me now," Harrison said.

--C Dusty Brown was the other player promoted, but that was only because C Jason Jaramillo, Indianapolis' starter, has been troubled by a sore elbow the last two weeks. Brown, 28, has spent limited time in the majors. He was batting .263 for Indianapolis with six home runs and 19 RBI.

--C Chris Snyder will remain Pittsburgh's starter, and he underscored that with a towering two-run home run to left in his first at-bat. That was Snyder's third home run. He also was charged with two passed balls, though, that proved instrumental in the Mets' two-run second inning.

--CF Andrew McCutchen has raised his average 30 points to .257 since May 6, but he wants no part of discussing it too much. "I don't want to jinx myself," he said. "I'm just seeing my pitches and hitting them now. Before then, I wasn't. That's pretty much been the only big difference."

BY THE NUMBERS
8 -- Losses in as many games for the Pirates at New York's Citi Field since the Mets' new home opened in 2009.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I just followed my heart. But it was hard." -- Manager Clint Hurdle, explaining to New York reporters Monday his decision to choose the Pirates over the Mets this offseason.
