93.1 -- Average speed of RHP Mat Latos' fastball Wednesday, compared to 91 mph over his first eight starts.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"I think what happened is that he gathered too much information too quickly last year. He started adding and subtracting from his fastball instead of just relying on 95 (mph). He just reared back and threw hardball today." -- Padres pitching coach Darren Balsley, on the Wednesday turnaround of RHP Mat Latos.
