Padres again playing it close to the vest
Monday's 3-2 win over the Braves in Atlanta was the Padres' seventh consecutive game decided by two runs or fewer.
In fact, 33 of the Padres first 54 games have been decided by two runs or fewer. The Padres are 16-17 this season in games decided by two runs or fewer, 9-9 in one-run games and 7-8 in two-run games.
Last season the Padres had 80 of their 162 games (49.4 percent) decided by two runs or fewer. This year the percentage is 61.1 percent.
The Padres are 4-3 over the last seven, one-run decisions against the Cardinals (1-2), Nationals (2-1) and Braves.
Also, the Padres are 14-11 on the road this season compared to 9-20 at home. They are 15-7 in day games this season, leading the major leagues in day victories, and 8-24 in night games.
Bottom line, they are 3-16 in home night games.
