Yuniesky Betancourt was in Tacoma, Wash., on Thursday night, ready for his second injury rehabilitation start, this one at shortstop.

He was at second base for five innings Wednesday.

But he never made it to shortstop. About 15 minutes before the Class AAA game, he was pulled from the lineup in what was termed "an organizational decision."

There has been speculation much of this season that the Mariners are looking to trade the man who had been their starting shortstop since the middle of the 2005 season.

He's on the disabled list at the moment, but he appears to have recovered from the hamstring injury that has sidelined him for two weeks. He was eligible to come off the DL on Thursday, and before the Mariners' game, manager Don Wakamatsu said there was a chance he would be activated sometime this weekend.

But the fact that he was scratched leads to speculation that something else might be in Betancourt's future.

A source in the clubhouse said, "It's not a problem with his health."

MARINERS 3, RANGERS 1: CF Franklin Gutierrez, who had singled earlier to extend his hitting streak to a career-best 12 games, hammered a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth, lifting Seattle to a win.

The Mariners had lost all five games they'd played against the Rangers before Thursday, and they were on the verge of going down again before RF Ichiro Suzuki doubled off LHP C.J. Wilson to open the eighth.

Two outs later, Suzuki was still at second base, but DH Ken Griffey Jr. worked Wilson for a walk on a 3-2 pitch, and Gutierrez followed with his 10th homer of the season.

RHP Felix Hernandez (9-3) was in command for every inning save the sixth, when a two-out walk by 2B Ian Kinsler and a subsequent single by 3B Michael Young set up a double steal. With CF Josh Hamilton at the plate, Hernandez bounced a wild pitch past C Rob Johnson to give the Rangers their run.

Word has it that Yuni has been traded to the KC Royals for 2 minor league pitchers. Haven't heard the details on the players and whether we had to included cash but would be happy with most anything myself.  Still a major rumor about the Mariners, ...(more)

couple quick questions.

Anybody know why we sent Jason Vargas back to the minors? I thought he was pitching pretty well, did someone get off the DL or something?

Whats happening with Ryan Rowland-Smith? getting some rehab starts in minors?

Any news on Silva and how do we get rid of him

(POLL) If/when the Mariners decide to make some moves via trades, who do you think the Mariners will most likely work with? Going off of rumors and speculations from other Mariner blogs, I've provided some of the teams I've read and heard plus a couple others I've thrown in.

I went to my first AZL Mariners game last night for a few innings and it was different than I thought it would be. They played here in Surprise against the Royals team so we drove over to the stadium and they were not there. We found them playing at one of the 16 practice fields inste ...(more)

Scott Boras met Mariners people to discuss second-overall pick Dustin Ackley , but the two sides made little progress.

This will drag out way too long.

I knew last month that we should have started dealing for the future before something happens, and something always happens in baseball. First Bedard gets hurt and loses value and any chance at Type A status.

Now Beltre is hurt and needs surgery again on his shoulder sometime soon. Even if he can make it to the end of the season, teams will shy away from him.

Yuni goes d

Im an Orioles fan and have been keeping an eye on Seattle since the Bedard trade.  I was an EB fan when he was in Baltimore and have been wishing him success.  Even though he has been injured he has dominant numbers and is just a single cog in Seattle's #1 pitching staff.  This just made me think how good Seattle coul ...(more)

I am curious to see what Mariners fans think of Russell Branyan not making the all star team. Did he deserve to go or not? I know he has put up career numbers with 20 HRS .295 avg. and 45 RBI's.  This is also on a team that doesn't score a lot of runs. Let me know what ...(more)

I remember writing on here before spring training that there was a runor of KC looking to deal Billy Butler for Yuni and just about everyone dogged the notion. They all said Yuni was too valuable for a player like Butler.

Butler may not have beem the answer, but he would have been a nice addition to our lineup either

Eric Bedard will be moved to an NL team simply because he will not be a Type A free agent in the AL with his injury.  Cliff Lee is the AL starter who the Mariners needed to continue to struggle to have Bedard reach Type A status.  However, with the ...(more)

I was reading a blog by Buster Olney and found out that Felix is actually not eligible for free agency until AFTER the 2011 season.  Therefore, we have at least 2.5 more years of him pitching for us.  If we can start winning we may be able to resign him as well.  All the speculation about talking trade with him in the offseason and worrying about an extension is far premature in lig ...(more)

I read the M's are interested in the Florida Marlin's Jeremy Hermidia, San Diego Padres' Kevin Kousmanoff, and possibly shipping off Mark Lowe.  Anyone, anyone, BUELER?

It was just announced that Mike Morse was traded to the Nationals for Longerhans. Funny, but one of the M's sites wrote an article last week on how the M's should try to acquire him becuase of his age, defense, and his left handed bat.

The same site was the on
