Mariners report: Notes, quotes
--RHP Brandon Morrow collected a save of more than one inning for the second consecutive Friday. He went 1 1/3 innings against the Padres in San Diego last weekend, then got in another 1 1/3 innings against the Tigers. In both cases, he didn't allow a base runner, and he lowered his ERA to 0.68 in the process.
--LHP Erik Bedard, who had gone four consecutive starts without a win, secured his second win in as many start with five innings of one-run ball against the Tigers. He left after needing 99 pitches to get through five innings. He has now thrown six consecutive starts without getting to 100 pitches in a game.
--C Jamie Burk took a foul tip off the bat of C Pudge Rodriguez on his right hand in the second inning. Not only did he finish the game, but Burke doubled and singled and scored two of Seattle's four runs.
--RHP Miguel Batista, who hasn't pitched since June 25, is ready to pitch again, manager Jim Riggleman said. Riggleman would like to see his one-time starter throw some in the bullpen before having him rejoin the rotation.
--RHP Felix Hernandez is due to return to the starting rotation next week. Hernandez, on the DL with a sprained left ankle, says he's ready to go now, but he's not eligible to come off the DL until Tuesday in Oakland. Manager Jim Riggleman said Hernandez would face either the A's or the Royals on the road next week.
