--CF Aaron Rowand had three hits and two RBI, his second straight multiple-hit game. He hit just .225 in June after a .343 May but seems to have regained his groove. He has five hits in two games.

--INF Travis Denker had one at-bat against his former team. Denker, acquired from the Dodgers last summer in the trade that sent 1B Mark Sweeney to L.A., grounded out as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning.

--LHP Jonathan Sanchez was heading for his ninth victory and seventh in eight starts. He exited after five innings leading 5-3, but the Dodgers rallied as the bullpen and defense crumbled. It's partly Sanchez's fault. He was not efficient and threw 110 pitches, prompting a premature exit.

--LHP Barry Zito hasn't won consecutive starts this year. For that matter, he hasn't won two of three starts. He could do that if he beats the Dodgers Saturday. Zito won at Cleveland on June 25 but lost to the Cubs June 30. Now he'll bring his 3-12 record against the Dodgers, the team he faced in his season debut, his first loss.

--Pitching coach Dave Righetti was acknowledged for the 25th anniversary of his Fourth of July no-hitter against Boston in 1983. The stadium scoreboard showed highlights of Rags' no-no, from his Yankee days.

BY THE NUMBERS
8-0 -- RHP Tim Lincecum's record in starts after Giants losses, through June 30.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"It was everything I thought it would be, except for not throwing strike one (to my first hitter). I always imagined I'd paint it." -- Reliever Sergio Romo, who made his big-league debut in Cleveland and threw a perfect inning.

The trade deadline is just a little over a month away, so let me ask you all, what players wouldn't mind seeing shipped out of town.

Be daring and throw out some contentious names! Caveats are fine, as in "only if he was part of deal that landed us X." or "I'd be sad to see him leave, but we'd probably have to ship him to get what we need."

Its up to y

I live in Texas and last nights game against the Astros was the first game I watched this season of the Giants.  WOW!!!!  They really showed us the offensive potential of the team.  If the Giants front office could sign a bat after the All-Star game, then we're definitl ...(more)

7 to 0. Yuck. It may only be one loss, but I saw it coming. The Giants again are not hitting. The two previous wins they amassed a total of 11 hits. Yes they scored 5 runs each time but it was a real weak 5 runs. Mike Krukow saisd it best "it is either Castle or outhose with this team on offense". This is true. I am not ...(more)

Big Unit = Best Off-Season Acquisition?

In a game of margins that calls for playing narrow odds, the widely accepted rule of thumb that "if you score six runs or more, you should win" would seem to imply by extension that "if you surrender 4 runs or fewer, you should win."  The Giants are an admirable 40

The Giants are in the rare position of having bullpen depth.  Despite the offensive outburst the last few games, they still need another strong bat in the middle of the lineup.  With Sanchez in the pen along with Affeldt and Romo, it would seem to me that Wilson is expendable.  His inflated save numbers will look good to someo ...(more)

It looks like John Bowker is being recalled from Fresno today.

This is a good move as Bowker has been lighting it up in AAA.

I don't want to steal any thunder from mischanova 's "Get On Base, Guy's" thread, but this deserves to be discussed.  Much of this rehashes what I've said that thread.

Yes, we're dead last in the MLB for HR's. But, if you look at some of our other offensive numbers, hits, doubles, batting average, strike outs, e

So Randy Johnson is on the DL. Hopefully not for too long.  During the "replace Sanchez" debates I made a number of comments reminding people that we may need to not only fill Sanchez's spot, but also Johnson's due to his age and risk of injury.

Now the Big Unit is out for a bit.  Now what?  I

Sometimes you get lucky when making predictions. Back on the 17th, I posted that instead of looking for Bumgarner and Alderson getting pulled up early, that Ryan Sadowski was the guy who deserved a chance. He's worked his rear off in Fresno, played 7 years in the minors out of high school, recovered from an injury and gets the c ...(more)

Do you feel the 2nd place team in the NL deserves to have more allstars than just 2 players!?!?
There is still a chance to vote in Pablo Sandoval for the Giants.

Panda is 4th in batting AVG with .333, 93 Hits (9th), 23 Doubles (5th), .566 Slugging% (5th)

It has been a while since the Giants have sent more than 1 or 2 All-Stars to the Midsummer Classic, and I think that the team with the second best win percentage in the NL deserves to have at least 4 this year.  Cain and Lincecum should be locks to be selected, and I think either of them could even start the game.  However, Pablo & ...(more)

Aside from the debacle witnessed vs the Angels, the Giants swept two series vs the A's and Rangers, and went 8 - 4 over this recent stretch. The season interleague record ended at 9 - 6, which is tremendous for an NL club in in ...(more)

I'm sure the majority of you would agree that Zito is more useful on the bench then he is on the mound.

The guy's 30 years old and he throws an 80mph fastball and has an average curveball compared to the one he used to throw when he first came up to play for the A's. Could he seriously be any more embarassing out on the mound for us?

I got to question the GM for signing thi

I posted this on another site.  Why all the hoopla for Manny?  The last time I looked, didn't he break the rules?  Why on earth did MLB allow a guy who used steroids, to come back and do a "rehab" stint in the minors?  I'm confused.  Manny is a cheater.  He's no better than Bonds, Sosa, Clemens, Giambi, etc.  Yet, I see where the Albuquerque Isotopes so ...(more)
