--SS Brandon Crawford knocked in another run Monday. He hit a grand slam in his first big-league game Friday and hit a run-scoring single in his third game Monday. It seems manager Bruce Bochy is giving Crawford a decent look at short, and the kid could earn more of a permanent role if he shows offensive consistency, which would be much more than SS Miguel Tejada has delivered.

--LHP Madison Bumgarner surrendered two runs in seven innings to earn just his second win -- but his second in succession. In large part, Bumgarner has been a tough-luck pitcher. He's 2-6 despite a 2.12 ERA in his last seven outings.

--OF Cody Ross was hitless in 14 at-bats entering Monday's game, dropping his average to .233, but then hit a solo homer in his first at-bat. It was his first hit since his double in the ninth inning May 24 against the Marlins.

--C Buster Posey was the subject of an interview with former Giants C Mike Matheny, who said it was unnecessary for Florida's Scott Cousins to deck Posey. "He was hunting," Matheny said of Cousins. "Buster gave him an option, and he didn't take it. I'm a big fan of Buster myself, so maybe I'm a little over-biased, but when I saw it, I wasn't happy."

--3B Pablo Sandoval, rehabbing from surgery on the hamate bone in his right hand, is scheduled to take batting practice Tuesday. He'll take full swings right-handed. But left-handed, he doesn't have full power yet and he'll simply swing at balls flipped underhand by a coach. It's possible he could begin a rehab assignment in the minors by Friday.

BY THE NUMBERS
21 -- One-run games played by the Giants, third most in the majors. They're 15-6 in those games.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"He's one of the veterans we'll be leaning on as a group. We know this offense has been anemic. We've got guys who have been through it. That's why we're hopeful we'll get this lineup going," -- Manager Bruce Bochy when asked about infielder Miguel Tejada, who owns some of the worst numbers among NL hitters.
