Braden Looper gave up just six hits over seven innings Friday, but two of them were solo homers, by Chicago right fielder Kosuke Fukudome and catcher Geovany Soto, as he suffered his sixth loss against nine wins. Looper threw 22 first-pitch strikes out of 28 hitters as he tossed a career-high 120 pitches.

First baseman Albert Pujols' 300th career homer, off the left-field foul pole, brought the Cardinals to one run down in the eighth. But third baseman Troy Glaus, who thought he had walked in the ninth on a 3-1 pitch that seemed outside, according to replays, then was called out on strikes.

Catcher Yadier Molina, who hit safely in his 11th straight game, later singled, but manager Tony La Russa openly was not happy after the game with umpire Ted Barrett's verdict on the Glaus at-bat.

Instead of being only 1 1/2 games behind division-leading Chicago in the National League Central, the Cardinals are 3 1/2 behind the Cubs and only one game in front of third-place Milwaukee.

While Pujols became the fifth fastest to 300 homers in his career, right-hander Jason Isringhausen appeared in his 600th game. Isringhausen recorded one strikeout in a scoreless ninth, fanning former Cardinal Jim Edmonds, who went down on strikes three times.

The Cardinals had five at-bats with men in scoring position, failing on all five.

CUBS 2, CARDINALS 1: The Cardinals continued to have their troubles winning at home. They have dropped six of their last eight games at Busch Stadium Friday and haven't led for any inning in the last two losses, which have come in succession.

Actually, three of them, right in a row! After the Giants, the Cards hit the road to face the Reds, Brewers, and Cubbies. I guess we'll know a lot more about this team next week. This year's edition of Cards is making me nervou ...(more)

I was interested in posting this because of the info on the team information banner on the homepage here.  It states that the Cardinals used to be the Browns and then turned into the Perfectos and then to the Cardinals.  This is what it states:

The St. Louis Cardinals, based in St. Louis, Mo., participate ...(more)

I know he is almost perfect in the 1st half of the season.  I know he is an all-star.  And I know that beard is awesome.  But I predict that Ryan Franklin will get hit hard in the all-star game and will not have as good a 2nd half as the 1st.

To sustain that level all year as a closer is very tough for a

Fellas, needless to say the Cardinals find themselves in a funk.  You can't really define their recent struggles as a slump becuase they have won a few games convincingly and lost a few too many too with a lot close games in between.  A lot has been said about the short-comings of their outfield and their 4 and 5 starters and that ...(more)

(POLL) The Jays are shopping quite a bit. The Cards might not have the talent to spare to get some of these players, but none the less, all are possible. La Russa is quite ambitious. If any trade is done, it's likely Wellemeyer and/or Ludwik would be included.  The Cards have some wiggle room in their pocket book to afford possibly bringing Rolen back, or another player with an inflated salary ...(more)

So I keep hearing that the Cubs are going to put it together come september?  And I am thinking..  Are you serious?

While the Cubs continue to have bullpen problems, Joel Pinerio is throwing a 2 hitter against the Mets.  Thank you Dave Duncan and

Granted, I don't watch a ton of TV anymore, but for what little snipits I've caught on shows like Baseball Tonight and MLB Tonight, when they talk about Albert Pujols, they haven't mentioned the Triple Crown. Pujols already has a healthy lead in the home run department (31, compared to ...(more)

Whether we win, lose, or draw this game, that Red's pitching in the top of the 8th is about the worst I've ever seen.  Walk the bases full for Albert, on 4 pitches no less.  And why would you walk anybody with a 3 run lead?  Horrible backward pitching.  Go after Hoffpauir.  What is the absolute worst he can do?  hit a 3 run dinger and tie it up.

Baseball Tonight just reported that St. Louis traded Chris Perez and a player to be named later to Cleveland for Mark DeRosa.  I know there have been arguments for and against getting DeRosa on this board, but I like having him.  In addition to his pla ...(more)

(POLL) Without a doubt Albert has become a force to be reckoned with in the game of baseball.  He has broken Stan Musials season GS record for the Cards, hes the third youngest player to put up numbers hes put up this season, I dont think this guy is human lol.  He walks, talks, acts human, but I think theres something behind the HRs.  Its not PEDs, I think this guy was built in an automat ...(more)

The Hole = Cleanup.

How pathetic have the Cardinals been at this crucial spot in the lineup. For the season, including Luddy's hot start, the 4 spot is batting .222. WHAT? .222 in the 4 hole? Before Luddy went on the DL he generated 8 home runs and 27 RBI over 33 games. In the 50 games since Luddy went out (including his retu ...(more)
