But with Longoria expected to be sideline at least three weeks with a strained left oblique, the Rays haven't decided exactly how.
Manager Joe Maddon said he'll sort through assorted scenarios, everything from a straight platoon, with Rodriguez starting against lefties and Lopez, a switch-hitter, facing right-handers, or going by specific matchups.
Another factor is how Lopez, who hit only .233 last season with the Cardinals and (briefly) Red Sox.
"We're going to have to figure out another way to get this done. And we'll get that done somehow," Maddon said. "It's just the way the baseball season works sometimes. You'll see more Felipe, you'll see more of Sean over there. Just try to really continue to mix and match the best we possibly can."
