New Rangers hitting instructor Clint Hurdle has a unique take on what he'll tell his new charges: nothing.

Hurdle, who was hired Nov. 5 as the replacement for Rudy Jaramillo, plans to go to the players and ask them to unload upon him what they know and what they think they know.

"I want them to come clean with what they've learned," said Hurdle, who signed a one-year contract with a club option for 2011. "I want them to tell me where they are. What did they know when they came into the organization, and what do they know now. And from there we build a relationship.

"It's not my way or the highway. I try to adapt to a player's strength. My challenge is to honestly communicate with these guys and to make them understand we're not trying to invent something that hasn't been done before. What I teach is going to be very solid and has a lot of the roots of the game in it. Through honesty and consistency, I think they'll get to know and trust who I am. I've got to capture their hearts first. They never care how much you know until they know how much you care."

Hurdle, 52, beat out three other finalists (Thad Bosley, Gerald Perry and Rusty Greer) for the job. He was the Colorado Rockies' hitting instructor under three different managers before becoming the club's manager in 2002. He was fired as manager in May of the 2009 season.

Hurdle declined an opportunity to move into the Colorado front office in order to take the Texas job. He said he still wants to win a World Series in uniform and still has a desire to teach.

"I've got an itch that still has to be scratched," he said.

Without knowing the contract status of all the players and just thinking to myself how to make the Rangers better. We need at least one man we can call an ace. And what do we have to offer, hitters. So who needs hitting  to contend? The San Francisco Giants. The Giants were just ...(more)

It makes perfect sense. Take the money they saved from dealing Padilla and put it towards giving John Lackey a solid contract offer. Lackey can be the ace at the top of the rotation while Feliz and Holland develop. Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure Lackey is also from Texas so he might be more inclined to sign there. The signing would h ...(more)

Eric Hurdle, the former manager of the 2007 NL Champs Colorado Rockies, has been named the Rangers new hitting coach. John Blake announced this yesterday.

I like the move a lot, and I think you will see a fresh new approach to the Rangers offense for 2010.

for free agency. Obviously this is just a formality more than anything else, but I fear that the Rangers are gonna lose him to a higher bidder, maybe even those damn Yankees. Hideki Matsui is all but gone and ...(more)

I saw something on MLB.com i think it was about CJ Wilson joining the rotation as a starter in 2010.  Anyone got any info or thoughts?

(POLL)

What is the most pressing issue that the Rangers have to address this offseason?

  • Find an owner who actually cares about the team
  • Getting rid of C.J. Wilson
  • Signing a starting pitcher
  • Make room for Justin Smoak
  • Firing Ron Washington
  • Not resigning ...(more)

***Mark McGwire's Five-Step Approach To Hitting***
The Mac is back!  Big Mac, Mark McGwire is back with the Cardinals to be their hitting coach.  McGwire has always been a fan favorite in St. Louis, but it’s almost a written fact th

Rudy Jaramillo declined the 1 year extension with Rangers today, ending his tenure here in Texas. He will venture out in to the MLB either looking for a manager position or another hitting instructor gig. As a Rangers fan, I wish him luck, but if I end up seeing him in pinstripes, reuniting with ...(more)

My momma taught me that if you can't say anything nice don't say anything.  I'm not sure she understood how hard that is as a Rangers fan.  Now that this last month is mercifully over I took a peak at some stats - some are encouraging and a few are points that must be addressed.

I'm hoping the Rangers have decided to shut down Neftali for the year.  His velocity is down and he hasn't been the most effective lately.  Although I will say his strikeout on Sunday after Franky had blown it was impressive.  Anyways,  he has had more work this year than he's probably had any other season in the minor l ...(more)

Did we all throw in the towel too soon.  There seems to be a small ray of hope with the unexpected surge of the A's.  This would be a huge comeback, but as long as there is a mathematical chance - why not the Rangers?

Why can't the A's sweep the Halos, we beat the Ray

How could he leave Holland in there for 10 earned runs the day before September call-ups in the middle of a play-off race.  He did a really poor job.

After dropping 2 of 3 to Seattle and getting swept by the A's the Ranger's are finding that the magic number for elimination is getting smaller.  Granted we still have 7 games with the Angel's to play and are only behind by 6 games.( Thanks to the Redsox sweep of the Angel's).  However trying to overcome the Redsox is getting further out of reach thanks to that same sweep.   ...(more)
