Rangers report: Notes, quotes

Notes, quotes · Roster · Inside pitch

--2B Ian Kinsler led off the game with an infield single to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. It's his second streak of at least 15 games this season and three shy of the career-best 19-game streak he authored early in the year.

--RHP Frank Francisco pitched a perfect sixth inning for the Rangers to keep his bid for a relief perfect game alive. Francisco has retired 19 consecutive batters over his last six appearances. He has allowed one hit and one walk in his last 8 1/3 innings.

--LHP Eddie Guardado returned to the mound after having shoulder tightness while trying to warm up for Monday's game at New York. He allowed one hit in a scoreless seventh inning. Guardado has not allowed a run in seven innings since June 18.

--RHP Brandon McCarthy threw 55 pitches off a mound in Arizona, his longest bullpen session since right elbow inflammation flared up in early April. He is expected to throw in a simulated game on Tuesday. McCarthy is hoping to be ready to join the club by Aug. 1.

--C Jarrod Saltalamacchia struck out twice and has six consecutive multiple-strikeout games. Since taking over for the injured Gerald Laird behind the plate, Saltalamacchia has 16 strikeouts in 33 at-bats.

BY THE NUMBERS
77-56 -- The Rangers record in games started by INF Ramon Vazquez since he joined the club in May 2007. Vazquez has been the left-handed hitting part of a third base platoon since late April. INF German Duran has faced lefties.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"He's got stupid pop, opposite-field pop. He got that pitch and hit it out like it was nothing. Hopefully, it's a sign of things to come." -- DH Milton Bradley on rookie 1B Chris Davis, who homered to left in his first major league start.
