Notes, Quotes
--RHP Brandon Webb made his first rehab start for Class AA Frisco on Monday, nearly 26 months after he last pitched in anything resembling a game. It was not an impressive first outing. Webb, who had shoulder surgery in August 2009, allowed five runs and 11 baserunners in 3 1/3 innings against Tulsa. His fastball stayed in the 84 mph range, about 6 mph below his pre-surgery level.
--LHP Derek Holland failed in two-out situations Monday. The Rays were 3-for-8 with a pair of walks against him with two outs, contributing to four of the five runs they scored against Holland. He's allowed hitters a .356 batting average and a .417 on-base percentage with two outs. Holland was removed with two outs in the sixth after he'd let a 9-1 lead melt to 9-5, but he still got the win.
--2B Ian Kinsler, who began the road trip with the worst road batting average among major league qualifiers (.143) did not get a chance to improve the mark Monday. He was given the day off. Manager Ron Washington said it was a pre-scheduled day off and had nothing to do with Kinsler's road woes or his ejection from Sunday's game.
--SS Elvis Andrus was stepped on during a sixth-inning collision with 2B Michael Young. Though Andrus remained in the game until the bottom of the ninth, his left foot was sore and swollen afterward, and it was uncertain if he'd be able to play Tuesday.
--OF Julio Borbon began his rehab assignment with Class AA Frisco on Monday and was 0-for-4 with a strikeout. Borbon, who is recovering from a hamstring strain, may have an uphill battle to regain his job as the starting center fielder. OF Endy Chavez was 3-for-4 and is 13-for-24 after beginning 0-for-9 in his return following a two-year recovery from knee surgery.
BY THE NUMBERS
.382 -- DH/INF Michael Young's road batting average, which jumped only nine points after a 3-for-6 evening against Tampa Bay. Young leads the majors in road batting average.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"It was fun. It was more than I've done. These are the tests that I need to do to see if I can do it. I don't know if (the fastball velocity) is going to come back. Hopefully, it does." -- RHP Brandon Webb on his first rehab assignment start for Class AA Frisco on Monday. He allowed five runs in 3 1/3 innings.
