Blue Jays report: Inside pitch

The drums have started to beat in the trade rumors surrounding Roy Halladay.

They haven't reached the loudness that accompanied the Blue Jays and Halladay last July in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline, but it's early.

With the winter meetings on the horizon beginning Dec. 7 in Indianapolis, the racket surrounding Halladay and the Blue Jays soon will become ear-splitting.

While new general manager Alex Anthopoulos is determined not to go public with any information regarding Halladay -- "I won't comment on any trade discussions, rumors or speculation," he said recently -- reports of the Blue Jays talking with other clubs regarding the former Cy Young winner have surfaced.

In Los Angeles, the Dodgers and the Angels are said to be interested, the Angels a little more than their National League rivals.

On the East Coast, the usual suspects are said to be lining up in the form of the Red Sox, Yankees and Phillies.

Fueling the discussion are the recent comments from Paul Beeston, who has taken over the full-time president and CEO duties with the Blue Jays.

Beeston loves Halladay and would like nothing better than to have him sign another contract extension, but he knows that's not possible because Halladay's wants and the status of the present-day Blue Jays provide a gap that can't be bridged.

Halladay wants to play for a winner, and the Blue Jays are in a youth, rebuilding kick.

As Beeston recently said: "We would like to sign him, he is an original Blue Jay and we have never had a pitcher as good as him. But he is not inclined to sign with us."

Given that, it's hard to believe that Halladay will be a Blue Jay for much longer. By the end of the winter meetings, he should be gone.

First trade Doc: a) to the Phillies for Drabek, Happ, Brown, and 2 lower level prospect and the Jays pay most of Halladay's salary for this year. We get the prospects we need and they get the best pitcher in the league and not have to pay him much. I'd be accepting to a trade to the ...(more)

As another year winds down with the Jays finishing 4th in the division again, I thought I would share my thoughts on the state of our team.  I was at the Halladay / Burnett game this past season, and saw first hand how supportive and boisterous Blue Jays fans can still be, and it was great to be a part of that.  Having said that, ...(more)

Lots has been said of stud pitcher Doc Halladay's imminent departure (most likely to the Phillies),but , as a long-time Jays fan, I believe the team is in better shape than the masses believe. There is some high end talent at important positions like Adam Lind and ...(more)

First off do not shot the messenger these are just rumours I have heard/read over the past few weeks

The Wells for Bradley deal everyone has heard, but the 43 million that would have to be sent with Wells makes this deal not a good idea for the Jays...WHY let me break it down with just numbers dollar numbers.          ...(more)

Okay, that ugly Blue Jays season is behind us now, and we're enjoying some nice playoff baseball.

Let's look to next spring then.  You know, where everyone thinks everyone can make the playoffs. (Unless you're the Pirates........ahhh, what the heck?  The Pirate

(POLL) I have read alot of articles and most people think cito should be fired, what do you guys think?

He has taken alot of heat for giving millar playing time.... i don't get why this is bad... i am not defending millar but does anybody think overbay is good? 15 HR at 1B does not cut it for me..... i would rather the Jays have a promotional night everygame where one lucky fan gets to play 1B

This is more a far-off idea... But let's say, that the Boston Red Sox do aquire Adrian Gonzalez. This make David Ortiz possibly available, and he may be pricey at $13 Million a year, but I thnik he is ...(more)

I think I asked a question like this before but I don't remember.....

If the Jays put Wells on waivers..... and a team was dumb enough to claim him.... (maybe he gets hot for a day or 2 and then put him on waivers).... and the jays let him go for nothing like rios.... can Wells exercise his no-trade clause and refuse to go to that team? or does waiver claim not count as a trade
